Reed C. Durham, Jr.
Reed Connell Durham, Jr. (born 1930) is a historian of the Latter Day Saint movement and former director of the Institute of Religion in Salt Lake City, Utah for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Durham is remembered for a controversial speech given in 1974 about Freemasonry and the Latter Day Saint movement. Biography Durham was born in Long Beach, California. He was one of the four children of Reed C. Durham, Sr. and Violet E. Cottrell. His father was a professor at Utah State University in Logan, Utah and served as bishop in the LDS Church three times. As a young man, Reed Jr. served as an LDS missionary for two years. Durham married Faye Lenore Davis and they began having children while he attended college in Logan. Sunday School (LDS Church)
Sunday School (formerly the Deseret Sunday School Union) is an organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). All members of the church and any interested nonmembers, age 11 and older, are encouraged to participate in Sunday School. ''The Ensign of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints'', commonly shortened to ''Ensign'' ( ), was an official periodical of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1971 to 2020. The magazine was first issued in January 1971, along with the correlated '' New Era'' (for youth) and the ''Friend'' (for children). Lambda Delta Sigma () was a college sorority, although originally it was co-educational, sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The Greek letters in its name match LDS, the common initialization of Latter-day Saints. History In the early years of the Institute of Religion at the University of Utah, attendance was growing and some male students wanted a way to build their brotherhood with fellow Latter-day Saints. Lowell L. Bennion, the institute director, helped them prepare a constitution and organized them as "Alpha House" in October 1936, followed by "Omega House" for women in December.
