Redveil
Marcus Morton (born April 20, 2004), better known by his stage name Redveil (stylized as redveil), is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer from Prince George's County, Maryland. He produces most of his own instrumentals, occasionally also making beats for other artists. He has self-released three albums, ''Bittersweet Cry'', ''Niagara'', and ''Learn 2 Swim'', as well as one EP, '' Playing w/ Fire''. Artistry Influence Growing up, Morton's parents would often play funk and soul music, which was an early influence to his sample choice, and his tone delivery. At age 11, Morton heard "Palace/Curse" by The Internet (band), The Internet and Tyler, the Creator, Tyler, The Creator, which he credits as the "kickstart" to his musical interest. Shortly after, Redveil began producing his own music with FL Studio. In 2020, Morton described his music as "triumphant, bright and sunny." ''Playing w/ Fire'' is the debut extended play by American rapper Redveil. The EP was self released on April 19 2023. ''Playing w/ Fire'' was supported by two singles, "Giftbag" and " Black Enuff". ''Playing w/ Fire'' was released to generally positive reviews, with critics praising Redveil's production, but disliking his new laid-back lyricism. Background ''Playing w/ Fire'' is a follow-up to Redveil’s sophomore album, ''Learn 2 Swim'', which was released on April 20, 2022. The first promotional single for the album, "Giftbag", was released on March 22, 2023. The next day, Redveil hinted at a new project during an interview with ''Rolling Stone India''. Denzel Rae Don Curry (born February 16, 1995) is an American rapper and singer. Born and raised in Carol City, Florida, Curry started rapping while in the sixth grade and began working on his first mixtape in 2011. Okayplayer is an online hip-hop and alternative music website and community, described by ''Rolling Stone'' as a "tastemaker" and "an antidote to dull promotional Web sites used by most artists". The community was founded by The Roots' drummer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson and author Angela Nissel as a loose musical collective in 1987, and evolved into an online community in 1999. In 2004, Questlove launched Okayplayer Records as a spin-off of the community, in partnership with Decon. Emmanuel Okanlawon (born October 3, 2003), known professionally as YungManny, is an American rapper from Bowie, Maryland. Career YungManny raps about many topics while using youth pop culture references, such as Hello Kitty, Moana, The Magic School Bus, and Stuart Little. In his music video for "Bonfire Pt. 2," he uses a power drill in place of a gun because he doesn't want to influence gun violence. Xanman
Haile Malik Salaam (born August 16, 2000), known professionally as Xanman, is an American rapper from Landover, Maryland. He gained significant attention in 2019 with his single "Gucci Down". Xanman has worked with a number of other Maryland rappers including his cousin YungManny and frequent collaborator Goonew. Goonew died in March 2022 from gunshot wounds. Drill Music
Drill is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in Chicago streets in the early 2010s. It is sonically similar to the trap music subgenre and lyrically similar to the gangsta rap subgenre.
