It is one of three adjacent beach cities along the southern portion of Santa Monica Bay. The population was 71,576 at the 2020 census, up from 66,748 at the 2010 census. Redondo Beach was originally part of the 1785 Rancho San Pedro Spanish land grant that later became the South Redondo area. 	Redondo Beach Station Redondo Beach station is an elevated light rail station on the C Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located over Marine Avenue in the city of Redondo Beach, California, after which the station is named. It is currently the western terminus of the C Line. The original name for the station was Marine Ave / Redondo Beach Ave, until 2005 when the station was renamed Redondo Beach. An extension beyond Redondo Beach into Torrance is in the planning stages. The train platform, currently suitable for two-car trains, may be lengthened to accommodate three-car trains to enable increased capacity of the line. 	Redondo Beach (song) "Redondo Beach" is a song by Patti Smith. It was first released on Smith's 1975 album ''Horses (album), Horses'', with band members Richard Sohl and Lenny Kaye credited as co-writers. The lyrics were originally published as a poem in Smith's 1972 book ''kodak (poetry collection), kodak'' under the title "Radando Beach". Song The lyrics relate the suicide by drowning of a young woman following an argument with the song's narrator. It has frequently been interpreted as a lesbian-themed song; Smith appeared to encourage this interpretation in her live performances, often introducing the song with "Redondo Beach is a beach where women love other women". She later said that she wrote the lyrics in 1971 following a fight with her sister Linda; Linda had disappeared for the day, causing Patti to worry that she had come to harm.
