Red Hot Organization
''Red Hot Organization'' (RHO) is a non-profit, 501(c) 3, international organization with goals to promote diversity through equal access to healthcare through pop culture. Since its inception in 1989, over 400 artists, producers and directors have contributed to over 21 compilation albums, related television programs, and media events to raise donations totaling more than 10 million dollars for HIV / AIDS relief and awareness around the world. The Red Hot Organization Collection was donated to Fales Library in New York City in 2006. Early history First founded as King Cole, Inc. by Leigh Blake and John Carlin, Red Hot was established in 1989 in response to the AIDS epidemic and its impact on artists and creators within New York City. Carlin, who previously pursued a career as an entertainment lawyer, expressed the wish to create an "AIDS charity album" to pay tribute to American singer/songwriter Cole Porter. ''Red Hot + Rio'' is a compilation album produced by Béco Dranoff and Paul Heck as part of the Red Hot AIDS Benefit Series intended to promote AIDS awareness. This installment is a contemporary tribute to the bossa nova sound, especially the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim. This release has proven to be one of the Red Hot series' more successful projects, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars for AIDS charities around the world. Brazilian recording artists including Jobim, Astrud Gilberto and Gilberto Gil are among the contributors to the project. Along with them, many contemporary pop music performers are featured on this release, including Incognito, David Byrne, Sting and PM Dawn. Its success made it the 2nd most celebrated entry in the Red Hot Series. ''Red Hot + Country'' (or ''RH+C'') was the follow-up to ''No Alternative'' in the Red Hot Series of compilation albums, a series produced to raise awareness and money to fight AIDS/HIV as well as other related health and social issues. This compilation featured music from the classic country and classic rock genres performed by an assortment of seasoned old and new country music artists. ''RH+C'' received two Grammy nominations following its release. A live show was held at the Ryman Auditorium — home to the '' Grand Ole Opry''. A recording of the live show was eventually released on home video. Wilco, which had formed earlier in 1994, made their recorded debut on the compilation with their cover of Ernest Tubb's "The T.B. is Whipping Me", a duet with Syd Straw. ''No Alternative'' is an alternative rock compilation album produced by Paul Heck and Chris Mundy. It was released in 1993 to benefit AIDS relief. The album features original tracks and cover versions from bands who went on to define the alternative rock scene of the 1990s. It was released with two different versions of album art: the standard version depicting a boy (''without'' the Nirvana song listed on the back and liner notes), and the alternate version depicting a girl (some ''with'' and some ''without'' the Nirvana song listed on the back and liner notes). ''Red Hot + Dance'' is an album produced by the Red Hot Organization, an organization dedicated to raising money and awareness to fight the onslaught of HIV/AIDS. Pop star George Michael was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition and the album was notable for featuring three new songs by him. Originally intended for his aborted project ''Listen Without Prejudice Volume 2'', the tracks were instead donated to this LP. Apart from "Too Funky", which was released as a charity single (along with a video featuring several "supermodels"), these tracks are exclusive to this album. George Michael later launched a legal action against record label Sony, citing their lack of support for this project as one of the reasons he no longer wished to work with them.
