Sengundram, known in English as Red Hills, is a neighbourhood in the northwestern part of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The name was derived from the red hills (Semman Kuviyal) that was formerly present in the area. History The first railway proposals for India were made in Madras in 1832. The country's first transport train, ''Red Hill Railway'' (built by Arthur Cotton to transport granite for road-building), ran from Red Hills to the Chintadripet bridge in Madras in 1836-1837. A town named Sholavaram has a unused airstrip build by British for World War II. It was originally operated by the Royal Air Force as an airbase during World War II. After the war, it was abandoned until the airstrip was turned into a venue for drag racing. Red Hills Fissure is a palaeontological site at the Red Hills in Saint Andrew Parish of south-eastern Jamaica. Description The Red Hills Fissure is a karstic solutional feature, with a vertical extent of about 8 m and a maximum width of 3 m, that was exposed by road construction in 1988. Originally a cleft or cave in the rock, it was infilled with sediments and debris that included the remains of animals that became trapped there. When it was discovered it was recognised as a rich source of vertebrate, gastropod and well-preserved millipede fossils dating from the late Pleistocene. Pulhal aeri, or Pulhal lake, sometimes spelled Puzhal lake, also known as the Red Hills Lake, is located in Red Hills, Chennai, India. It lies in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu state. Red Hills is a locality and suburb in the local government area of Meander Valley, in the Launceston region of Tasmania. It is located about west of the town of Deloraine. The Meander River forms part of the south-eastern boundary, while its tributary Western Creek forms the remainder.
