Red Cross Hospital, Bancroft
The Red Cross Hospital in Bancroft (later known as Bancroft Hospital) opened in 1949 and was one of the first custom designed and built Red Cross hospitals in Ontario. It took over responsibilities from the previous Red Cross health post in Bancroft. Belleville General Hospital took over the hospital in 1983 and the hospital was closed in 2002 when a new one was built on Manor Lane, Bancroft. History Around 1919, in the aftermath of World War I, the Red Cross was pivoting away from only international health work in conflict zones and started providing health care in Canada. In 1922, the Ontario division of the Canadian Red Cross opened their first health post Wilberforce Red Cross Outpost. Huashan Hospital (), formerly the Chinese Red Cross General Hospital, is a teaching hospital in Shanghai, China, affiliated with the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. History Huashan Hospital was founded in 1907 as the Chinese Red Cross General Hospital (). It was established by Shen Dunhe, the founder of the Red Cross Society of China, and opened for business in 1909. From 1913 to 1918, it served as a teaching hospital of Harvard University, and regularly sent its doctors and researchers to Harvard for training. The Maingau Clinic of the Red Cross (german: link=no, Klinik Maingau vom Roten Kreuz) is a clinic in Frankfurt, Germany, which is run by the German Red Cross. It is located near the Eschenheimer Anlage park in central Frankfurt, with the address Scheffelstraße 2–14. The clinic traces its history to the 1890 establishment of the Maingau Nursing Society by the Frankfurt branch of the Patriotic Women's Association. Its main goal was the education of nurses, and for this purpose the society bought a building near the Eschenheimer Anlage. In 1897 the society formally became part of the Red Cross movement, under the name ''Schwesternschaft Maingau vom Roten Kreuz''. Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital
Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa was opened in 1956 through public subscription as a memorial to soldiers lost in the Second World War. The suggestion that the memorial take the form of a children's hospital was proposed by Vyvyan U.T. Watson. Mr Watson, a prominent businessman, had lost his first born and only son, Peter Tennant Watson, at about four years old, to an outbreak of diphtheria in Cape Town. Mr Watson was a major force in steering the organization of the building of the hospital. The Peter Pan statue on the hospital grounds, sculpted by Ivan Mitford-Barberton, was donated by Mr Watson and his wife, Gwendolyn. Mr Watson was later President of the South African Red Cross Society.
