''Red'' is a Cantopop album by Leslie Cheung first released in 1996. The album was Cheung's second post-"retirement" album and incorporated multiple genres including smooth jazz, and trip hop, producing a distinct music style from Cheung's earlier albums. The lyrics of all the songs were penned by lyricist, Albert Leung. ''Red'' is the only such album published by Cheung. The album also featured Cheung's first collaboration with C.Y. Kong. Leslie Cheung
Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing (12 September 1956 – 1 April 2003) was a Hong Kong singer and actor. Throughout a 26-year career from 1977 until his death, Cheung released over 40 music albums and acted in 56 films. Cantopop
Cantopop (a contraction of "Cantonese pop music") or HK-pop (short for "Hong Kong pop music") is a genre of pop music written in standard Chinese and sung in Cantonese. Cantopop is also used to refer to the cultural context of its production and consumption. The genre began in the 1970s and became associated with Hong Kong popular music from the middle of the decade. Cantopop then reached its height of popularity in the 1980s and 1990s before slowly declining in the 2000s and experiencing a slight revival in the 2010s. Albert Leung (born 7 December 1961, ) is a lyricist and writer based in Hong Kong. Education Leung attended all-boy secondary schools at Chan Sui Ki (La Salle) College and La Salle College. He received a bachelor of arts in translation from the University of Hong Kong in 1984. Songwriting career He has been a Cantopop lyricist since 1985, using the pen name Lam Chik.
