Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association
The Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association (RRA) founded in 1974, is the professional association of rabbis affiliated with Reconstructionist Judaism. It has approximately 300 members, most of whom are graduates of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. The RRA is a member of a number of national coalitions including the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. From 1987 to 1989, Rabbi Joy Levitt was the first female president of the RRA. In 2007, Rabbi Toba Spitzer became the first openly lesbian or gay person chosen to head a rabbinical association in the United States when she was elected president of the RRA. Reconstructionist Judaism
Reconstructionist Judaism is a Jewish movement that views Judaism as a progressively evolving civilization rather than a religion, based on concepts developed by Mordecai Kaplan (1881–1983). The movement originated as a semi-organized stream within Conservative Judaism and developed from the late 1920s to 1940s, before it seceded in 1955 and established a rabbinical college in 1967. Reconstructionist Judaism is recognized by some scholars as one of the five streams of Judaism alongside Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and Humanistic. There is substantial theological diversity within the movement. Brant Rosen (born February 22, 1963) is an American rabbi and blogger, known for his pro-Palestinian activism. Biography Rosen is a native of Los Angeles, California. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. Career and activism Rosen is the rabbi of Tzedek Chicago, an anti-Zionist synagogue he founded in August 2015. Rosen previously served as the rabbi of the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston, Illinois from 1998 to 2014, when he resigned, citing increasing tension over his Palestine solidarity activism. Dan Ehrenkrantz is an American Reconstructionist rabbi, currently serving as the outgoing president of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, Pennsylvania. Career Ehrenkrantz graduated magna cum laude with B.A. degree in Religion from Tufts University. He received an M.A. in Hebrew Letters degree and rabbinic ordination from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC) in 1989. He served as rabbi of Congregation Bnai Keshet in Montclair, N.J. from 1988 to 2002, where he developed a new family education program. He was active in local programs for interfaith understanding.
