Recapturetheglory (foaled February 11, 2005) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Recapturetheglory is a bay horse bred by Charles Jacobi. He was sired by the Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Cherokee Run is out of the mare Cold Awakening, by Dehere. Recapturetheglory is owned by Louisianans Louie Roussel III and Ronald Lamarque, who also owned Risen Star, winner of the 1988 Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. Conditioned for racing by Roussel, at age two the colt won for the first time in his third start in a September 29, 2007 maiden special weight race on at Hawthorne Race Course. In his second start of 2008, Recapturetheglory was sent off as a 15-1 longshot in the 2008 Illinois Derby at Hawthorne Race Course. Under jockey E. T. Baird, the colt scored a convincing four-length victory and his winning purse means he qualified for the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of U.S. Triple Crown series. Louis J. Roussel III, known as Louie Roussel (born January 13, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana), is an American businessman and a Thoroughbred racehorse owner and trainer who owned Fair Grounds Race Course and who won the final two legs of the 1988 U.S. Triple Crown series with Risen Star, a colt later voted the Eclipse Award as the American Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse. The Illinois Derby is a race for Thoroughbred horses for three year olds run over a distance of one and one-eighth miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt at Hawthorne Race Course in Stickney/Cicero, Illinois, just west of Chicago in early April each year. The event was first run in 1923 at the Hawthorne Race Course. The purse is $250,000. History The race was named in honor of the home state in which it was run, the state of Illinois. The Louisiana Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged four years and older over a distance miles on the dirt track held annually during the third week of January at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana. Cherokee Run (March 15, 1990 – July 2, 2016) was an American thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Background He was bred by George Onett of Stone Gate Farm. Risen Star (March 25, 1985 – March 13, 1998) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes in 1988. Background The dark bay colt was the son of the great Triple Crown winner Secretariat and out of the mare Ribbon. Bred by Arthur B. Hancock III and Leone J. Peters, Risen Star was bought by Louisianans Ronnie Lamarque and Louie Roussel III at the 1987 Calder Two-Year-Olds In Training sale. Hawthorne Race Course is a racetrack for horse racing in Stickney/Cicero, Illinois, near Chicago. The oldest continually run family-owned racetrack in North America, in 2009 the Horseplayers Association of North America introduced a rating system for 65 Thoroughbred racetracks in North America. Of the top ten, Hawthorne was ranked No. 8. History and information In 1890, Edward Corrigan, a Chicago businessman and horseman who owned the 1890 Kentucky Derby winner, Riley (by Longfellow), bought of land in Cicero and started constructing a grandstand for a new racecourse.
