Rebecca Jane Williams (born July 28, 1988) is a Canadian corporate manager and former actress. A native of Liverpool, England, she immigrated to Canada at age four, attended Toronto's Malvern Collegiate Institute, and trained at Armstrong Acting Studios. In 2011, Williams was nominated for a Gemini Award (Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series) for ''Reviving Ophelia''. Becky Williams is a Union activist and the current president of SEIU District 1199, which represents more than 35,000 health care, social service and public sector workers across Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Williams is the first woman president of SEIU District 1199. Early life and union career Williams is originally from Canton, Ohio. She ascribes her interest in union activity to her family’s history, saying “I will never forget what life was like as a working mother of four without the protection of a union.” In 1991 after organizing her fellow co-workers to join the union, she became an official member of SEIU District 1199. The following year, she started as a union organizer. In addition to being the first woman president of SEIU District 1199, she is also the only District 1199 president who has worked her way up from union member to president. It is based on the memoirs of Rebecca Yancey Williams and set in Lynchburg, Virginia, from 1913 to 1929. Synopsis Based on the true story of turn-of-the-century Robert Yancey, lawyer and ever-popular politician in Virginia. The film starts with the statement, "This is the story of a vanishing era when simple men so loved their country, their families and their friends that America became a better place in which to live. Rebecca Chase Williams was a journalist and mayor of Brookhaven, Georgia. Previously a District 1 City Councilwoman, Williams became mayor after the city's inaugural mayor, J. Max Davis, resigned in May 2015. Prior to her public service, Williams was a distinguished ABC News journalist for more than twenty years. Mayor Williams is the wife of Dick Williams, editor and publisher of ''The Dunwoody Crier'', a weekly newspaper covering Dunwoody, Brookhaven, and Sandy Springs. Williams hosted the weekly Atlanta television program, ''The Georgia Gang The Georgia Gang is a long-running public affair program broadcast in Atlanta, Georgia.
