Rebecca Selkirk
Rebecca Joy Selkirk (born 1993), is a South African chess player and Woman Candidate Master. Career Selkirk earned the title of Woman Candidate Master in 2019. She represented South Africa in the 2018 Chess Olympiad on board four, and the 2022 Chess Olympiad, also on board four, scoring 4/9. Selkirk qualified to represent South Africa in the 2021 Online Olympiad. However, she declined her invitation, citing a lack of transparency and incompetent handling of the qualification process. Streaming and blogging In late January 2020, Selkirk partnered up with South African Woman's Chess Champion, Woman International Master Jesse February, to start the HashtagChess channel on the streaming platform Twitch, which has amassed over 14,500 followers as of July 2022. FIDE Titles
FIDE titles are awarded by the international chess governing body FIDE (''Fédération Internationale des Échecs'') for outstanding performance. The highest such title is Grandmaster (GM). Titles generally require a combination of Elo rating and norms (performance benchmarks in competitions including other titled players). 44th Chess Olympiad
The 44th Chess Olympiad (also known as the Indian Chess Olympiad), was organised by the FIDE, Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) in Chennai, the state capital of Tamil Nadu, India from 28 July to 9 August 2022. It consisted of open and women's tournaments, as well as several events designed to promote the game of chess. The event was initially supposed to take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, along with the Chess World Cup 2019, but was later moved to Moscow and scheduled for the period from 5 to 17 August 2020. However, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then relocated to Chennai following 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Jesse February
Jesse February (born 1997) is a South African chess player who holds the title of Woman International Master (WIM, 2016). She is a two-time South African women's chess champion and a one-time African women's chess champion. Chess career February earned the title of Woman FIDE Master in 2015, and Woman International Master in 2016. She has represented South Africa in the Women's Chess Olympiad of 2016 (scoring 4/9 on board three), 2018 (6.5/10 on board one) and 2022 (2/7 on board one). In 2015, she was crowned U18 girls champion at the South Africa junior closed chess championships, and was selected to play for the national team for the World Youth Chess Championships in Greece that October.
