She was the mother of finance minister Ajanta Neog and mother in law of ex-minister Nagen Neog. Political career Das was the Indian National Congress candidate for Jalukbari in the 1972 Assam Legislative Assembly election. She received 8809 votes, 38.35% of the total vote. She defeated her nearest independent opponent by 3045 votes. She sought reelection in the 1978 Assam Legislative Assembly election. She received 3550 votes, 8.67% of the total vote. The Assam Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Assam. It is housed in Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, geographically situated in present Western Assam region. Ajanta Neog
Ajanta Neog (born in 1964) is an Indian politician who is currently the Finance and Social Welfare Minister in the Government of Assam. She is the first woman Finance Minister of Assam. She has been representing the Golaghat Assembly seat consecutively for the past five terms since 2001. She also holds the record for being the longest serving female legislator from Assam. Nagen Neog (died 6 May 1996) was an Indian politician from the state of Assam. He served as Member of Assam Legislative Assembly for Golgahat and as Rural Development Minister in the Hiteswar Saikia Cabinet until his assassination. He was the husband of the current Finance minister of Assam, Ajanta Neog, and son in law of MLA Rebati Das. Political career Neog was the Indian National Congress candidate for the constituency of Golaghat in the 1983 Assam Legislative Assembly election. Lakhyadhar Choudhury (1915β2000) was an actor, playwright, film-director, humanist, prose-writer, orator, cabinet-minister in the state of Assam, state legislator, teacher, 'freedom fighter', president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha and the Asom Natya Sanmelan. Early life and education Lakhyadhar Choudhury was born in Rangmahal, North Guwahati on the Dipwali night of 1915 to Bhudhar and Uma Choudhury. He was admitted to Cotton Collegiate High School in 1925. He passed his BSc examination from Cotton College, Guwahati in 1933. The 1978 Assam Legislative Assembly election was held to elect members for 126 assembly seats to constitute the seventh Assam Legislative Assembly. ''People's Party'') was a political party that was founded as an amalgam of Indian political parties opposed to the Emergency that was imposed between 1975 and 1977 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of the Indian National Congress.
