Realwheels Theatre
Realwheels Theatre is a Canadian disability theatre company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Realwheels was founded in 2003 by James Sanders and has since received multiple Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards and nominations. History In 2000, James Sanders — an actor who became quadriplegic in 1990 — and Trevor Found created the Realwheels Ad Hoc Collective, which would eventually break out into Realwheels Theatre. They began by producing plays without a disability centred story. After the success of these productions, Sanders, in 2003, founded and incorporated Realwheels Theatre as a registered non-profit. Sanders has described Realwheels' mandate as being to promote "a deeper understanding of the disability experience." Bard On The Beach
Bard on the Beach is Western Canada's largest professional Shakespeare festival. The theatre Festival runs annually from early June through September in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Festival is produced by Bard on the Beach Theatre Society whose mandate is to provide Vancouver residents and tourists with affordable, accessible Shakespearean productions of the finest quality. The Arts Club Theatre Company is a Canadian professional theatre company in Vancouver, British Columbia, founded in 1958. Michael (Mike) Lew is a Chinese-American playwright most renown for his works ''Teenage Dick,'' and '' Tiger Style!.'' He acquired his B.A. at Yale University in 2003, double majoring in Theatre (directing) and English (writing), then proceeded to get his artist diploma in playwriting at the Juilliard school in 2003. Brian Robert Clark (3 June 1932 – 16 November 2021) was a British playwright and screenwriter, best known for his play ''Whose Life Is It Anyway? (play), Whose Life Is It Anyway?'', which he later adapted into a screenplay. Biography Clark was born on 3 June 1932 in Bristol, United Kingdom, the son of a blacksmith. Clark was educated at the University of Nottingham. He married Maggie Clark, his first wife, and raised two sons. Whose Life Is It Anyway? (play)
''Whose Life Is It Anyway?'' is a play by Brian Clark adapted from his 1972 television play of the same title, which starred Ian McShane. The stage version premiered in 1978 at the Mermaid Theatre in London, and subsequently opened on Broadway in 1979. The play involves a sculptor who is paralysed. Plot Set in a hospital room, the action revolves around Ken Harrison (Claire Harrison in some later productions), a sculptor by profession, who was paralysed from the neck down ( quadriplegia) in a car accident and is determined to be allowed to die. Clark presents arguments both in favour of and opposing euthanasia and to what extent government should be allowed to interfere in the life of a private citizen.
