Reade Baker
Reade Baker (born April 30, 1947, in Port Dalhousie, Ontario) is a retired trainer of Thoroughbred racehorses who was voted the 2005 Sovereign Award for Outstanding Trainer in Canada and who in 2018 was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. During his career Reade Baker trained horses that won 13 National Championships of which two earned Canadian Horse of the Year honors. Career At age eighteen, Reade Baker worked in Toronto as a groom and exercise rider for Canadian Hall of Fame trainer Pete McCann. A horse trainer is a person who tends to horses and teaches them different disciplines. Lady Angela Stakes
The Lady Angela Stakes is a thoroughbred horse race run annually during the third week of May at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada. An Ontario Sire Stakes, it is a restricted race for three-year-old fillies contested over a distance of seven furlongs on Polytrack synthetic dirt. Inaugurated in 1982 at Greenwood Raceway, it was raced at a distance of six and one half furlongs in its first year but in 1983 was modified to its present seven furlongs. The event was moved to the Woodbine track in 1984. The race is named for the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame mare, Lady Angela. Cotillion Handicap
The Cotillion Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually at Parx Racing and Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. It is run in late September or early October as a prelude to the annual Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships. The race is open to three-year-old filles, willing to race one and one-sixteenth miles (eight and a half furlongs) on the dirt. The Grade I event carries a purse of US$1 million. From 2006 to 2010 it was called the Fitz Dixon Cotillion to honor Fitz Eugene Dixon Jr. of the prominent Widener family of Philadelphia, who have been major figures in Thoroughbred racing since the early part of the 20th century. Colin Stakes
The Colin Stakes is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse race run annually during the later half of July at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario. Open to two-year-old horses, it is contested over a distance of 6 furlongs on Tapeta and currently carries a purse of $95,800. Inaugurated in 1956 at Fort Erie Racetrack, the great filly La Prevoyante won the 1972 race by beating her male counterparts then went on to a career that would see her inducted in both the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame. Jacques Cartier Stakes
The Jacques Cartier Stakes is a Thoroughbred horse race run annually since 1954 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Run near the beginning of the Woodbine spring meeting, the sprint race is open to horses aged four and older and is run over a distance of six furlongs on Tapeta synthetic dirt. In 2019, it became a Grade III stakes race and the purse was increased to Can$125,000 with an additional $25,000 available for Ontario-bred horses.
