''The Mongrel'' ( it, Razza bastarda) is a 2012 Italian thriller- drama film. It marked the directorial debut of actor Alessandro Gassmann, who also co-wrote the script and starred in the film. For his performance Gassmann won the Globo d'oro for best actor. The film was nominated for two David di Donatello, for best new director and for best original song ("La vita possibile"), and also received three nominations at Nastri d'Argento Awards, for best cinematography, best new director and best score. Pivio (born 7 June 1958 in Genoa, Italy) and Aldo De Scalzi (born 23 January 1957 in Genoa, Italy) are two Italian composers, best known for scoring music for television and motion pictures. They are not siblings: Pivio is a pseudonym for Roberto Pischiutta, while Aldo De Scalzi is Vittorio De Scalzi's brother, founding member of New Trolls, an Italian progressive rock band. Alessandro Gassmann (born 24 February 1965) is an Italian actor and film director. Early life Gassmann was born in Rome, Italy, the son of Italian actor Vittorio Gassman and French actress Juliette Mayniel. He is of German, Jewish and French descent. Career He debuted at 17 in the autobiographical film ''Di padre in figlio'', written and directed with his father, under whose tutoring he later studied in the Theatre Workshop of Florence. Among his theatrical activity, he was noted for his playing in Pier Paolo Pasolini's '' Affabulazione'' (1984).
