Raymund Brachmann

Life Born in Leipzig, Brachmann was the son of an Amtsgerichtsrat in Leipzig. After his father's early death, he studied architecture at the Technical University of Dresden. Brachmann received his first major commission, a country house in , from a young officer's widow whom he later married. The merchant Max Haunstein, a relative of Brachmann's wife, commissioned him to design a villa as a wedding gift for his wife. The house at Liviastrasse 8 in Leipzig, whose spatial concept was based on the position of the sun in the course of the day, was designed by Paul Horst-Schulze. SLUB Dresden
The Saxon State and University Library Dresden (full name in german: Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden), abbreviated SLUB Dresden, is located in Dresden, Germany. It is both the regional library (german: Landesbibliothek) for the Federal Republic of Germany, German State of Saxony as well as the academic library for the Dresden University of Technology (german: Technische Universität Dresden). It was created in 1996 through the merger of the Saxon State Library (SLB) and the University Library Dresden (UB). The seemingly redundant name is to show that the library brings both these institutional traditions together. The SLUB moved into a large new building in 2002 to bring together the inventories of both its predecessors. Edition Leipzig was a publisher in the German Democratic Republic (GDR/DDR), which, for the most part, placed books on Western markets as an export publisher. This was intended to serve representative purposes as well as to procure foreign currency. Today, the publishing house is part of the Seemann Henschel publishing group, which was taken over by in October 2017 with a program on regional and cultural history. From 1960 to 1984 more than book titles were published, of which more than 500 were published in foreign languages and about 60 even in multilingual versions. In the first phase, which lasted up to 1965, the publication of scientific and technical books predominated. Machern () is a municipality in the Leipzig district in Saxony, Germany. It is in the vicinity of the city of Leipzig. Geography Machern lies 20 km east of Leipzig, about 10 km west of Wurzen over the river Mulde. The Leipzig-Riesa-Dresden railway line runs through the town, as does the B 6. ''Jugendstil'' ("Youth Style") was an artistic movement, particularly in the decorative arts, that was influential primarily in Germany and elsewhere in Europe to a lesser extent from about 1895 until about 1910. It was the German counterpart of Art Nouveau. The members of the movement were reacting against the historicism and neo-classicism of the official art and architecture academies. It took its name from the art journal '' Jugend'', founded by the German artist Georg Hirth. It was especially active in the graphic arts and interior decoration. Its major centers of activity were Munich and Weimar and the Darmstadt Artists' Colony founded in Darmstadt in 1901.
