Raymondville Parabolic Bridge
Raymondville Parabolic Bridge is a historic Truss#Lenticular truss, lenticular truss bridge located at Norfolk (town), New York, Raymondville in St. Lawrence County, New York. It was constructed in 1886 and spans the Raquette River. It was constructed by the Berlin Iron Bridge Co. of East Berlin, Connecticut. It was closed to vehicular traffic in 1979 was used briefly as a pedestrian bridge. ''See also:'' then closed completely to all traffic for safety reasons. There is now no public access to the bridge's actual deck, but both approaches are accessible on foot. There is a nearby similar but shorter version of this bridge also built by the Berlin Iron Bridge Co. still in use linking River Road and New York State Route 56, NY 56 at Yaleville, New York. In the late 1950s tragedy struck on the parabolic bridge. A small boy while walking to school one morning lost his footing and slipped on some ice and fell under the railing into the Raquette River where he drowned. It was listed on ... Norfolk (town), New York
Norfolk () is a town in St. Lawrence County in the U.S. state of New York. The town is in the northern part of the county and is north of Potsdam. The population was 4,668 at the 2010 census. History The town was first settled around 1869. The town was formed in 1869 from part of the Town of Louisville. In 1869, part of Norfolk was returned to Louisville, and part of the Town of Stockholm was added to Norfolk in 1869. A small part of Norfolk was lost when the community of "Raquetteville" incorporated as the Village of Potsdam Junction in 1869. In 1875, it became Norwood.
