Raymond Vouel
Raymond Vouel (8 April 1923 – 12 February 1987) was a Luxembourg politician. Vouel was Deputy Prime Minister in the Thorn-Vouel cabinet, a coalition between Vouel's Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party and Gaston Thorn's Democratic Party. The politics of Luxembourg takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic monarchy, whereby the Prime Minister of Luxembourg is the head of government, and the multi-party system. Jacques François Poos (3 June 1935 – 19 February 2022) was a Luxembourgish politician. Early life and education Born in 1935, in Luxembourg, Poos was a trained economist and became a doctor of economics in 1961, when he graduated from the University of Lausanne. Career in politics Poos was a long-time member of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party. Between 1964 and 1976, he was director and editor in Chief of the daily newspaper “Tageblatt” in Esch-sur-Alzette. In the same period he also became a member of the town council of Esch-sur-Alzette. In July 1976, he was appointed Minister of Finance. As the foreign minister of Luxembourg he held Presidency of the Council of the European Union for three half-year terms in 1985, 1991 and 1997. Franciscus Henricus Johannes Joseph "Frans" Andriessen (2 April 1929 – 22 March 2019) was a Dutch politician of the defunct Catholic People's Party (KVP) and later the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party and businessperson who served as European Commissioner from 6 January 1981 until 6 January 1993. Andriessen studied Law at the Utrecht University obtaining a Master of Laws degree. Andriessen worked for a construction institute in Utrecht from October 1953 until February 1967 and as CEO from July 1961. Andriessen was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives after the election of 1967 on 23 February 1967 and served as a frontbencher chairing the House Committee for Public Housing Reform and spokesperson for Housing. Albert Borschette
Albert Borschette (14 June 1920 – 8 December 1976) was a Luxembourgian diplomat and writer. He served as Luxembourg's European Commissioner from 1970 until 1976. After attending the Lycées of Diekirch and Luxembourg City, Borschette studied in Aix-en-Provence, Innsbruck, Munich and Paris. In World War II he was forcibly enrolled in the Wehrmacht, and fought on the Eastern front. His experiences there became part of his literary work: almost all of his books involve the Soviet Union or the war. For his novel ''Continuer à mourir'' he received the SELF Prize in 1957. After the war he was a press attaché in the Ministry of State, and then became the Luxembourgish representative with the French occupying army in Germany, with the Allied Control Commission in Berlin, then Embassy Secretary in Berlin and then in Brussels.
