Raymond Clare Nowland
Raymond Clare Nowland (1894-1973) was an architect in Australia. Many of his buildings are listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. Early life Raymond Clare Nowland was born in Sydney in 1894. Nowland studied at Sydney Technical College and the Architectural Association in London. Career On returning to Australia, Nowland was employed by the Commonwealth Government from 1920 to 1926. Nowland then moved to Queensland, practicing as an Architect and Town planner in Brisbane. Nowland joined the architectural office of the Department of Public Works in the Queensland Government in November 1932 where he became a senior architect in 1938. He produced the most significant buildings of his career between 1932 and 1942. Nowland also had some private practice in which he proposed developments for Mount Tamborine and housing estates in Coorparoo for property developer Robert George Oates. Queensland Heritage Register
The Queensland Heritage Register is a heritage register, a statutory list of places in Queensland, Australia that are protected by Queensland legislation, the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. It is maintained by the Queensland Heritage Council. As at 5 April 2020 there are 1790 places on the Queensland Heritage Register, including the Story Bridge in Brisbane and the Ross River Meatworks Chimney in Townsville. Criteria For a place to be entered in the register, it must be nominated and then go through a process of assessment. Petrie Terrace Police Depot
Petrie Terrace Police Depot is a heritage-listed former police barracks at 25-61 Petrie Terrace, Petrie Terrace, Queensland, Petrie Terrace, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1850s to 1960s. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 23 July 1999. The site was vacated by the police in the mid-1980s and sold in 1987. The police barracks remained unused for two decades, while the two other surviving buildings saw alternate uses for some years. In 2007–08, the entire site was redeveloped as a commercial and retail precinct known as "The Barracks". Lister House is a heritage-listed office building at 79 Wickham Terrace, Spring Hill, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is also known as the Brisbane Clinic. It was designed by Raymond C Nowland and built from 1930 to 1948 by J I Green & Son. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History This two-storeyed masonry building was constructed in 1930 as purpose-designed medical suites for Lister House Ltd, a group of medical practitioners. Like its neighbour Inchcolm, it is built on the site of the first Inchcolm building. In 1929 Lister House Ltd acquired the site from the Wharf Street Congregational Church (the church having decided to construct their new church on a more central site). Gladstone Court House is a heritage-listed courthouse at 16 Yarroon Street, Gladstone, Gladstone Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Raymond C Nowland and built from 1940 to 1942.
