Raymond V. Wilson (1870 – September 15, 1912) was an American Negro league first baseman and manager between 1896 and 1910. Wilson debuted with the Cuban X-Giants in 1896, and was known as "the best first sacker in the game", "the king of first basemen", and "the colored Hans Wagner". He played nine seasons with the X-Giants, then finished his career with the Philadelphia Giants from 1907 to 1910. Wilson was player-manager for the X-Giants in 1905 and 1906, as well as for Philadelphia in 1909. Raymond Neil Wilson (23 March 1928 – 16 March 2018) was an English physicist and telescope optics designer, best known for pioneering the use of active optics in large telescopes. Ramon Wilson, MBE (17 December 1934 – 15 May 2018) was an English professional footballer who played at left back. He was a member of the England national team that won the 1966 World Cup. He was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Club career Huddersfield Town Wilson became an apprentice railwayman upon leaving school, but was spotted by a scout playing amateur football at Huddersfield Town. He began a combination of working on the tracks by night and training with Huddersfield by day, before being called up for national service. Quickly singled out as a strong and nippy left back, with good overlapping skills, by the then-Huddersfield Town manager Bill Shankly, Wilson signed professional forms with the club in 1952 after his two-year army posting, and made his debut against Manchester United in October 1955. Ray T. Wilson (born 8 April 1947 in Grangemouth) is a Scottish former football full-back. An amateur with Woodburn Athletic he joined West Bromwich Albion on the same terms in 1963, turning professional a year later. Initially playing on the left side of midfield he soon settled into the left full-back position, dislodging Graham Williams with his hard tackling. A regular at left-back for a number of years, he suffered a shattered kneecap against Luton Town in August 1975 and was forced into early retirement as a consequence.
