Harold Raymond Powell (7 August 1923 – 7 July 1993) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Powell was a utility player, often featuring as a half forward flanker. He only twice played more than half the game in a season, with 16 appearances in 1944, followed by 14 games in 1945. Raymond Powell (5 August 1924 – May 2014) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as a centre forward in the Football League for Swansea Town and Scunthorpe & Lindsey United. He played non-league football for Haverfordwest Athletic, Kettering Town, Banbury Spencer and Wellingborough Town, where he was player-manager. Life and career Powell was born in 1924 in Morriston, Swansea, and attended Glanmôr School. He was called up to the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, and met his future wife while serving in South Africa. He played both football and rugby during the war for RAF teams and football for Cambridge Town, Morriston and Haverfordwest Athletic. While playing against Swansea Town in 1947, Powell impressed that club's manager enough to take him on as a professional. Ray Bennett Powell is an American politician and veterinarian from the state of New Mexico. He served as New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands from 1993 until 2003, and again from 2011 until 2015. Early life and education Powell was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology and biology from University of New Mexico, a Master of Science in botany and plant ecology from UNM, and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University, with an emphasis in wildlife medicine. Career Powell entered politics in 1993 after he was appointed New Mexico commissioner of public lands by Governor Bruce King. He was elected to a full term in 1994 and reelected in 1998. Due to term limits, Powell could not run again in 2002. He ran again in 2006 and narrowly lost to Jim Baca, whom he had succeeded in 1993, in the Democratic primary.
