Ray McArthur
Raymond John "Ray" McArthur (c. 1917 - 5 August 1974) was an Australian rules footballer who played with West Adelaide in the SANFL. McArthur played in many positions during his career including ruckman. He made his debut 1935 and was West Adelaide's best and fairest winner two years later. In 1939 he tied in the voting for the Magarey Medal with Jeff Pash Jeff Pash (15 August 1916 – 22 April 2005) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The South Australian National Football League, or SANFL ( or ''S-A-N-F-L''), is an Australian rules football league based in the Australian state of South Australia. It is also the state's governing body for the sport. Magarey Medal
The Magarey Medal is an Australian rules football honour awarded annually since 1898 to the fairest and most brilliant player in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), as judged by field umpires. The award was created by William Ashley Magarey, then chairman of the league. The current recipient is Aaron Young. History William Magarey was born in Adelaide, South Australia. A lawyer by vocation, he had an enduring interest in sports, although he did not play football. He was, however, an active sports administrator who, in 1897, became the inaugural Chairman of the South Australian Football Association (later renamed the SANFL). The sport at that time was known for often rough play, and Magarey wanted to help combat this, and help gain more respect for umpires. Jeff Pash
Jeff Pash (15 August 1916 – 22 April 2005) was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He is a half forward flanker in North Adelaide's official 'Team of the Century'. Pash made his North Adelaide debut in a game against Port Adelaide in 1938, aged 21. He was the club's best and fairest winner that year and again the following season. In 1939 he was also a Magarey Medalist, tying with Ray McArthur from West Adelaide but winning after the umpires conferred. From 1941 to 1943 he was in Port Augusta due to teaching commitments and didn't return to the club until 1944, although they had merged with Norwood Football Club. He was a premiership player that season and when the war was over the merger ended.
