Ray Herring
Ray Herring (born 24 September 1967) is an Australian rugby league former professional rugby league footballer who played professionally for three Queensland clubs in Australia during the 1980s and 1990s. Herring was the player who threw the pass that hit Mario Fenech in the head, leading to the term "Falcon". Background Herring attended Oakey State High and in 1984 was part of the Australian Schoolboys team. Playing career In 1988, he made his first grade debut for the Brisbane Broncos. Herring remained with the Broncos for the next three seasons but was only used sparingly and from the bench. In 1991 he switched clubs, joining the Gold Coast. Herring played in fifty six matches for the club over the next four years and often started at hooker. However the club was not competitive. Oakey is a rural town and locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. The Museum of Army Aviation is located at Oakey Airport. The Australian Schoolboys rugby league team is the national rugby league football team for secondary school students in Australia. The team competes against counterparts in New Zealand, known as the Junior Kiwis, England, Wales and France amongst others. Started in 1972, the Australian Schoolboys have produced over 50 Australian representatives, amongst a host of players who have represented other nations at the highest level. Mario Fenech (nicknamed "The Maltese Falcon", “Falcon”, or "Muzza"; born 11 November 1961) is a Maltese Australian rugby league personality. He is a former player of the game who had a lengthy career in the New South Wales/Australian Rugby League in the 1980s and 1990s. His favoured position was as hooker, where he represented New South Wales in State of Origin. In his later career, he became a prop-forward. A legendary figure for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, he captained the club for five seasons from 1986 to 1990. Background Fenech was living in the Botany region of Sydney at the time of his childhood.
