Ray Gartner (rugby League)
Raymond William Gartner (1934-1983) was an Australian rugby league player who played in the 1950s and 1960s. Playing career Gartner had a long and successful career at Canterbury-Bankstown, playing eleven seasons and over 200 grade games between 1953-1964. He also captained the N.S.W. Colts against Great Britain in 1954. Greenacre, New South Wales
Greenacre, a suburb of local government areas City of Canterbury-Bankstown and the Municipality of Strathfield, is located 17 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district in the state of New South Wales, Australia, and is a part of the South-western Sydney region. History This area was previously known as East Bankstown. When the first road went through the area, an acre of land was cleared for cultivation. Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Belmore, a suburb in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney. They compete in the NRL Telstra Premiership, as well as competitions facilitated by the New South Wales Rugby League, including the Canterbury Cup NSW, the Jersey Flegg Cup, Harvey Norman Women's Premiership, Tarsha Gale Cup, S. G. Ball Cup and the Harold Matthews Cup. The club was admitted to the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership, predecessor of the current NRL competition, in 1935. Newtown Jets
The Newtown Jets are an Australian rugby league football club based in Newtown, a suburb of Sydney's inner west. They currently compete in the NSW Cup competition, having left the top grade after the 1983 NSWRFL season. The Jets' home ground is Henson Park, and their team colours are blue (traditionally royal blue) and white. Established in 1908, Newtown were one of the founding members of the New South Wales Rugby Football League. They competed continuously in the NSWRFL premiership until their departure in 1983, the first reduction in the League since 1937. Over this period they won the competition three times. Joe Gartner
Joseph Samuel Gartner (1912–2002) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and was a dual premiership winner. Playing career Gartner was graded with Newtown in 1931 and went straight into first grade. Gartner was a prolific try scorer during his career and usually played on the wing. He played five seasons with Newtown between 1931 and 1935, which included winning a premiership with them in 1933. He then moved to Canterbury-Bankstown and played six seasons with them between 1936 and 1941. He won a further premiership with Canterbury in 1938 and he scored two tries in that match. He was the father of another Canterbury-Bankstown legend, Ray Gartner. Canterbury-Bankstown is a customary region of Sydney, Australia, in the south-western suburbs. The area is located around the Bankstown railway line, to the west of the St George region and to the south of the Inner West region.
