Ray Burke (Irish Politician)
Raphael Patrick Burke (born 30 September 1943) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician who served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from June 1997 to October 1997, Minister for Justice from 1989 to 1992, Minister for Communications from 1987 to 1991, Minister for Industry and Commerce from 1988 to 1989, Minister for Energy from 1987 to 1988, Minister for the Environment from March 1982 to December 1982 and 1980 to 1981 and Minister of State at the Department of Industry, Commerce and Energy from 1979 to 1980. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1973 to 1997. Early life Burke was born in Dublin. He was educated at O'Connell Schools, he went on to study at University College Cork, before becoming an auctioneer. Burke's political career commenced when he was elected to Dublin County Council for Fianna Fáil in 1967. He was Chairman of the Council from 1985 to 1987. The Minister for Foreign Affairs ( ga, An tAire Gnóthaí Eachtracha) is a senior minister in the Government of Ireland and leads the Department of Foreign Affairs. The Minister's office is located at Iveagh House, on St Stephen's Green in Dublin; "Iveagh House" is often used as a metonym for the department as a whole. From 1922 until 1971 the title of the office was ''"Minister for External Affairs"''. The current office holder is Micheál Martin, TD. He is also Minister for Defence. Peter Barry (10 August 1928 – 26 August 2016) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as Tánaiste from January 1987 to March 1987, Deputy Leader of Fine Gael from 1977 to 1987 and 1991 to 1993, Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1982 to 1987, Minister for the Environment from 1982 to 1981, Minister for Education from 1976 to 1977, Minister for Transport and Power from 1973 to 1976 and Lord Mayor of Cork from 1970 to 1971. University College Cork – National University of Ireland, Cork (UCC) ( ga, Coláiste na hOllscoile Corcaigh) is a constituent university of the National University of Ireland, and located in Cork. Patrick Burke (Dublin Politician)
Patrick Joseph Burke (26 January 1904 – 9 September 1985) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1944 to 1973. A hospital official before entering politics, he was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil TD for the Dublin County constituency at the 1944 general election. He was re-elected at each subsequent general election until he retired at the 1973 general election. He was known locally as ''Bishop Burke''. His son Ray Burke succeeded him, when he was elected as a Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin County North at the 1973 general election.
