Betsy Rawls
Elizabeth Earle "Betsy" Rawls (born May 4, 1928) is an American former LPGA Tour professional golfer. She won eight major championship and 55 LPGA Tour career events. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Early life and education Rawls was the daughter of Robert Miller and Mary Earle Rawls. She was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and moved to Arlington, Texas, in 1940. She went on to graduate from Lovelady High School and enrolled in North Texas Agricultural College (now UT-Arlington) in 1946 as a physics major. As a freshman, she was recognized by faculty and department heads as a "Who's Who" in Physics, and was selected for the Phi Kappa Theta honor society. The following year Rawls transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated with a degree in physics in 1950. Amateur career Rawls started playing golf at age 17. Mary Eugenia Rawls (September 11, 1913 — November 8, 2000) was an American actress. Biography Rawls was born in Macon, Georgia, and lived with her grandmother and two aunts for most of her early life. She made her stage debut at age 4 in a local production of ''Madame Butterfly'' and later attended Wesleyan College in Macon. She moved to New York City and made her Broadway debut in 1934 as Peggy Rogers in Lillian Hellman's '' The Children's Hour''. Her best-known role came in 1939 as Tallulah Bankhead's character Regina Gidden's daughter, Alexandra, in ''The Little Foxes''. She replaced the original actress on Broadway, and performed with Bankhead, who would become her lifelong mentor, when the show toured the US. John Bordley Rawls (; February 21, 1921 – November 24, 2002) was an American moral, legal and political philosopher in the liberal tradition. Rawls received both the Schock Prize for Logic and Philosophy and the National Humanities Medal in 1999, the latter presented by President Bill Clinton, in recognition of how Rawls's work "revived the disciplines of political and ethical philosophy with his argument that a society in which the most fortunate help the least fortunate is not only a moral society but a logical one". Rawls released more than 60 albums, sold more than 40 million records, and had numerous charting singles, most notably his song "You'll Never Find Another Love like Mine". Thomas Tyrell Rawls (born August 3, 1993) is a former American football running back. He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He played college football at Michigan and Central Michigan. Rawls currently holds the Seahawks' record for the most single game rushing yards by a rookie running back (209) and the most rushing yards by an undrafted rookie in his first 6 games (711). Woodrow Wilson Rawls (September 24, 1913 – December 16, 1984) was an American writer best known for his books '' Where the Red Fern Grows'' and '' Summer of the Monkeys''. Early years Woodrow Wilson Rawls was born in Oklahoma in 1913. When Rawls was 16, the United States economy entered the Great Depression, prompting his family to leave their Oklahoma home for California; however, the family's convertible broke down near Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Rawls's father found a job at the nearby toothpaste factory. In the 1930s and 1940s, Rawls became a carpenter and traveled to South America, Canada, and Alaska. He wrote five manuscripts during this period, including ''Where the Red Fern Grows''. William A. "Bill" Rawls is a fictional character on the HBO drama ''The Wire'', played by actor John Doman.
