Ravenscourt Park Football Club
Ravenscourt Park was a short lived 19th century English rugby union club that was notable for being one of the twenty-one founding members of the Rugby Football Union, as well as supplying a number of international players for the sport's early international fixtures. History Ravenscourt Park was founded in 1865. It was a club made up almost exclusively of Old Rugbeians. This was partially due to its establishment at such an early period in the sport's history, and there were few schools that played football in the style of Rugby School. As an extension, this meant that Ravenscourt Park was one of the few non-school sides that Rugby School elected to play, because the rules by which it played were the same. Old Boys clubs for former pupils of certain schools emerged towards the end of the 1860s, such as the Marlborough Nomads which served Marlborough College. Rugby Football Union
The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is the Sports governing body, national governing body for rugby union in England. It was founded in 1871, and was the sport's international governing body prior to the formation of what is now known as World Rugby (WR) in 1886. It promotes and runs the sport, organises international matches for the England national rugby union team, England national team, and educates and trains players and officials. The RFU is an industrial and provident society owned by over 2,000 member clubs, representing over 2.5 million registered players, and forms the largest rugby union society in the world, and one of the largest sports organisations in England. Clapham Rovers
Clapham Rovers was from its foundation in 1869 a leading English sports organisation in the two dominant codes of football, association football and rugby union. It was a prominent club in the late 19th century but is now defunct. The club played variously on Clapham Common, Tooting Bec Common and Wandsworth Common and wore a cerise and French-grey kit. History The club was formed on 10 August 1869 by a meeting arranged by W. E. Rawlinson, who, on the formation of the club, was elected honorary secretary. At this very first meeting it was agreed to play under both codes, with association rules to be played one week, and rugby the next. Ernest Still was a rugby union international who represented England from 1873 to 1873. Early life Ernest Still was born on 14 July 1852 in Epsom, the fifth son of Robert Still of Sutton in Surrey. He attended Rugby School and went on to study law at Brasenose College, Oxford from where he received his BA in 1874 and his MA in 1880. Francis Isherwood
Francis William Ramsbottom Isherwood (16 October 1851 – 30 April 1888) was an English sportsman who played international rugby union for England and first-class cricket. Francis Isherwood was the third son of Richard Ramsbottom Isherwood of Clewer Lodge and Reading, both in Berkshire, and his wife, Anna Clarendon, the daughter of William Cox of Windsor in New South Wales, Australia. Annie Isherwood, Anglican nun and founder of the Community of the Resurrection of our Lord, was his younger sister. He was educated at Rugby School and Brasenose College, Oxford. The England national rugby union team represents England in men's international rugby union. They compete in the annual Six Nations Championship with France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. England have won the championship on 29 occasions (as well as sharing 10 victories) – winning the Grand Slam 13 times and the Triple Crown 26 times – making them the most successful outright winners in the tournament's history. William Moberly
William Octavius Moberly (14 November 1850 – 2 February 1914) was an English sportsman who played first-class cricket for Gloucestershire and represented the England national rugby union team. Early life and education Moberly was educated at Rugby School, before going to Balliol College, Oxford. He won a blue for rugby in 1872 and until 1874 played for the university. This included the first ever Varsity Match against Cambridge in 1872, with Moberly captaining Oxford to victory. He also played two first-class cricket matches for Oxford, against the Gentlemen of England in 1870 and 1872. Rugby career As a wing-three-quarter, he took part in the second ever rugby international between England and Scotland, in 1872. The match, which took part at The Oval, was won by England. Richmond FC
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL).
