Rave Fever
''Rave Fever'' (), also known as ''X-Mas Rave Fever'') is a 1999 Hong Kong comedy film directed by Alan Mak starring Cantopop composer Mark Lui, who was also responsible for much of the film's music. It is a Christmas film that was released theatrically in Hong Kong on 23 December 1999 for the Christmas season. Plot Don (played by Cantopop composer Mark Lui) is a harried yuppie living in Hong Kong who has a one-night stand with a mysterious woman named Sonia. The next morning Sonia disappears but leaves her filofax in Don's possession. He attempts to retrace his steps from the previous night and encounters Nicole (played Jaymee Ong), a sexually liberated but potentially untrustworthy woman who may or may not have known Sonia. The filofax ends up in the hands of the journalist Ashley (played by YoYo Mung), who falls for the handsome yet troubled Steven (played by Terence Yin), who is revealed to be Sonia's former lover. Alan Mak (director)
Alan Mak Siu-fai (; born 1 January 1965), is a Hong Kong writer, director, actor and producer. Early life In 1965, Mak was born in Hong Kong. Education In 1986, Mak studied at the School of Drama in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Upon graduation in 1990, he started his movie career. Career Mak made his directorial debut in 1997, with his first film being '' Nude Fear'', which was written and produced by Joe Ma. After that, Mak directed further films such as '' Rave Fever'', ''A War Named Desire'', ''Final Romance'' and ''Stolen Love'', which would be his first collaboration with writer Felix Chong. In 2002, Mak and Chong wrote their first script together. The movie was ''Infernal Affairs'', which was produced by Mak's directing partner, Andrew Lau, who also served as cinematographer. Sam Lee Chan-sam (born 27 September 1975) is a Hong Kong actor. He started his film career when he was first spotted by director Fruit Chan who cast him in '' Made in Hong Kong''. Since his debut, Lee has been working hard on many films. In 1999, he made thirteen films in that year alone. He appeared in a Japanese film ''Ping Pong'' as one of the contestants in the movie. Lee is best known for his role as Sha Jang in the Hong Kong television series '' The Monkey King: Quest for the Sutra'' (2002). The Hong Kong New Wave is a film movement in Chinese-language Hong Kong cinema that emerged in the late 1970s and lasted into the early 2000s. Origins of the movement The Hong Kong New Wave started in 1979 with the release of numerous notable films. During the 1980s, the Hong Kong film industry began to flourish. Film emerged as the most popular form of entertainment in Hong Kong, in part due to the fact that many Chinese households did not have a TV at the time.
