Ravagers (1979 Film)
''Ravagers'' is a 1979 American science fiction action film directed by Richard Compton and based on the 1966 novel ''Path to Savagery'' by Robert Edmond Alter. The screenplay concerns survivors of a nuclear holocaust, who do what they can to protect themselves against ravagers, a mutated group of vicious marauders who terrorize the few remaining civilized inhabitants. Plot In the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust, animal-like creatures known as "the ravagers" roam the earth and kill all survivors. A man named Falk (Richard Harris) witnesses his wife's murder by the creatures. Seeking vengeance, Falk becomes a vigilante. He joins a small community, led by Rann (Ernest Borgnine), living aboard a ship anchored off shore. The ship is destroyed in an attack by the ravagers. Falk then leads his fellow survivors on a desperate quest for a place where they can live in peace. Richard Compton
Richard Compton (March 2, 1938 – August 11, 2007) was an American actor, director and writer, primarily in television. Compton had small parts as an actor in film and television series, including minor roles in two episodes of ''Star Trek: The Original Series''. Years later, he directed an episode of '' Star Trek: The Next Generation''. Other directorial credits included episodes of ''The X-Files'', '' Charmed'', '' Sliders'', ''Babylon 5'' and ''Miami Vice'', as well as the films ''Macon County Line'' and its sequel, ''Return to Macon County'' (both of which he also co-wrote). Compton was the husband of actress Veronica Cartwright and the brother-in-law of actress Angela Cartwright. Woodrow Wilson Woolwine Strode (July 25, 1914 – December 31, 1994) was an American athlete and actor. He was a decathlete and football star who was one of the first Black American players in the National Football League in the postwar era. After football, he went on to become a film actor, where he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in ''Spartacus'' in 1960. Stephen Lodge (February 6, 1943 – February 26, 2017) was an American author, television screenwriter and actor; also a former costumer and stuntman to the industry. He was born in the Long Beach area of California, United States. Early and professional life Lodge was the co-writer of the Kenny Rogers Western epic, the 1993 CBS TV movie ''Rio Diablo'', co-starring Travis Tritt, Naomi Judd and Stacy Keach. His first major screenwriting credit was for the United Artists feature ''The Honkers'' starring James Coburn. Soon afterwards, he was writing, producing and directing the film, ''One Block Away'' – this was co-written by Hoke Howell, who also acted in it.
