Ratatat
Ratatat ( ) is a Brooklyn-based electronic rock duo consisting of Mike Stroud (guitar, melodica, synthesizers, percussion) and producer Evan Mast ( bass, synthesizers, percussion). History Beginnings and first album, ''Ratatat'' (2001–2005) Evan Mast and Mike Stroud first met as students at Skidmore College. They started working together in 2001, recording several songs under the name "Cherry". Stroud had previously toured with Dashboard Confessional in 2000. Ratatat debuted in 2003 with the release of the single "Seventeen Years" on Mast's and his brother Eric's (E*Rock) record label Audio Dregs in the US and Rex Records in the UK. Mike Stroud had been a touring member of Ben Kweller's band, but he "had enough" by 2003 and, after two years of touring, left the band after appearing on their second album, On My Way (released in 2004). ''LP3'' is the third studio album (or third LP) by Ratatat, released on July 8, 2008. It contains the single "Shiller" originally released on 7" vinyl. The duo experimented with different genres as well as synthesizer patches, percussion instruments, sound effects, and samples.     ''Ratatat'' is the debut album from the Brooklyn-based electronic duo of the same name. It was recorded between July 2001 and May 2003 in bassist Evan Mast's Crown Heights, Brooklyn apartment and mixed in June 2003 before its release on April 20, 2004. The album is essentially instrumental, although it has occasional voice excerpts (referred to in the liner notes as "spoken interludes") by local MC and rapper Young Churf. The track "Spanish Armada" contains a French horn played by Michal Emanovsky. Other tracks of note are "Germany to Germany", later released as a single; and "Cherry", a homage to Ratatat's original name. The most well known song on the album is "Seventeen Years". It was featured in a television advertisement titled "Accessorize" for the Hummer H2 in 2004, in the British television show ''Soccer AM'' as the original background music for The Crossbar Challenge segment, and in Level One Productions's ski movie ''Shanghai Six''.     Evan Peter Mast, also known by his stage name E*vax or E.VAX, is an American electronic music artist and one-half of the New York-based electronic rock band Ratatat, alongside Mike Stroud. Career Mast met his Ratatat bandmate Mike Stroud when they were both students at Skidmore College. They released their self-titled debut album in 2004, followed by four more studio albums. Mast has released 7-inch singles on Static Caravan Recordings and Mold Recordings, along with an EP in collaboration with musician Craig Wedren, most known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the band Shudder to Think. Mast also recorded a track titled "The Mule" for the TV show ''Silicon Valley''. Mast has written and produced hip hop music as E*vax.     ''Classics'' is the second full-length album from Ratatat, released on August 22, 2006. As with their first album, ''Classics'' is almost entirely instrumental, with the only exception being a large cat-like sound sample used in "Wildcat."     Benjamin Lev Kweller (born June 16, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. A former member of Radish, Kweller has released six solo albums and appeared on several collaborations. Early life Ben Kweller was born in San Francisco in 1981. In 1982, his family relocated to Emory, Texas, where his father, Howard Kweller, became the town's first doctor. In 1986, the Kwellers moved to the larger Texas town of Greenville. Kweller was exposed to music at a very early age. Howard taught Ben how to play the drums when he was seven years old.     Skidmore College is a private liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York. Approximately 2,650 students are enrolled at Skidmore pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in one of more than 60 areas of study.
