Kinky (band)
Kinky is a Mexican rock band, formed in 1998 as part of the Avanzada Regia musical movement and consisting of Gilberto Cerezo, Ulises Lozano, Carlos Chairez, Omar Góngora, and Cesar Pliego. Although a majority of songs are sung in Spanish, some songs contain English lyrics. Kinky were discovered and signed by Sonic360 Records. History ''Kinky'' Their first album, called '' Kinky'', was released in early 2002, co-produced by Chris Allison. It was a success in Latin America, and had some success in the U.S. Their second single, titled "Más", was a success worldwide. "Más" was used in commercials for Nissan and the NBC Mexican Mafia mini-series '' Kingpin.'' It was also featured in the video games ''SSX 3'' and ''Crackdown'', and the movies ''Thirteen'' and '' Man on Fire'', which featured another song by Kinky, "Field Goal". Rock en español () is a term used widely in the English-speaking world to refer to any kind of rock music featuring Spanish vocals. Compared to English-speaking bands, very few acts reached worldwide success or between Spanish-speaking countries due to a lack of promotion. Sonic360 Records is a British record label founded by record producer Chris Allison in June 2000. Its headquarters are in London with a subsidiary in the US, Sonic360 Inc. Artists that have signed to the label include Mexican electro-funk rock outfit Kinky. They gave Chris Allison a three song demo presented on a cassette tape in 1999 while he was producing Plastilina Mosh in Monterrey Mexico. They signed an exclusive worldwide deal with Sonic360 in the summer of 2000. Kinky's eponymous debut album was co-produced by Chris Allison and was nominated for the Best Rock Album award at the 3rd Annual Latin Grammy Awards (2002) and Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album at the Grammy Awards (2002). ''Reina'' is the third studio album by the Music of Mexico, Mexican electropop band Kinky (band), Kinky. It was released on September 5, 2006 on Nettwerk. The album's lyrics are sung more in English than Spanish language, Spanish, unlike Kinky's two preceding albums, ''Kinky (Kinky album), Kinky'' (2002) and ''Atlas (Kinky album), Atlas'' (2003). ''Reina'' is a mixture of many musical styles with electronica, Latin percussion, traditional Mexican accordion, heavy rock and roll, rock electric guitars and bass guitars all occupying the same musical space. Oye Como Va
"Oye Cómo Va" is a 1962 cha-cha-chá by Tito Puente, originally released on ''El Rey Bravo'' (Tico Records). The song achieved worldwide popularity in 1970, when it was recorded by American rock group Santana for their album ''Abraxas''. This version was released as a single in 1971, reaching number 13 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, number 11 on the ''Billboard'' Easy Listening survey, and number 32 on the R&B chart. The block chord ostinato pattern that repeats throughout the song was most likely borrowed by Puente from Cachao's 1957 mambo "Chanchullo", which was recorded by Puente in 1959. The song has been praised by critics and inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.
