Raqqa Subdistrict
Raqqa Subdistrict or ar-Raqqah Nahiyah ( ar, ناحية الرقّة), a subdistrict of Raqqa District, is the central area of Raqqa Governorate (Syria), including the city of Raqqa and the nearby countryside north of the Euphrates. The subdistrict population at the 2004 census was 338,773, the majority of which living in Raqqa city itself. The administrative centre is Raqqa. Formerly, much of the subdistrict was controlled by ISIS. Raqqa Subdistrict is bounded by the Euphrates to the South, Tal Abyad District to the North, and also of Raqqa District: Al-Jarniyah Subdistrict to the West, and Al-Karamah Subdistrict to the East. A nāḥiyah ( ar, , plural ''nawāḥī'' ), also nahiya or nahia, is a regional or local type of administrative division that usually consists of a number of villages or sometimes smaller towns. Tal Abyad District
Tell Abyad District ( ar, منطقة تل أبيض, Manṭiqat Tall Abyaḍ; ku, Devera Girê Spî) is a district of the Raqqa Governorate in northern Syria. The administrative centre is the city of Tell Abyad. Parts of the district are currently under the Turkish occupation of northern Syria. Demographics At the 2004 census, the district had a population of 129,714. The majority of inhabitants are Arabs, with considerable Kurdish and Turkmen minorities. All three groups are overwhelmingly Sunni. The western part of the district is mainly inhabited by Kurds, the Turkmens are mainly concentrated in Suluk and southwest of the town and the rest of the district is almost all Arab. Al-Jarniyah Subdistrict ( ar, ناحية الجرنية, nahiyah al-Jarniyah) is a subdistrict of Al-Thawrah District in Raqqa Governorate ( Syria), approximately west of Raqqa. The subdistrict population at the 2004 census was 31,786. Al-Jarniyah Subdistrict is bounded by Lake Assad to the West and South, Ayn al-Arab District of Aleppo Governorate to the North, and Raqqa District also of Raqqa Governorate to the East.
