Rapture, Indiana
Rapture is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Harmony Township, Posey County, Indiana, Harmony Township, Posey County, Indiana, Posey County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. History Rapture was originally called "White's Settlement", and is one of the oldest communities in Posey County. It was laid out in 1838 by John Cox, and became known as "Winfield", and also "Bugtown". The present name of Rapture may have come from a local horse. Cox Creek runs through the community. A post office was established at Rapture in 1892, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. CNN reported in 2011 that just one person lives in Rapture, where they own a home, rental property and airplane hangar. The airplane landing strip is known as "Bugtown Airport". Rapture was the setting for Terence Faherty, Terence Faherty's 1999 novel ''The Ordained''. New Harmony, Indiana
New Harmony is a historic town on the Wabash River in Harmony Township, Posey County, Indiana. It lies north of Mount Vernon, the county seat, and is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. The town's population was 789 at the 2010 census. Established by the Harmony Society in 1814 under the leadership of George Rapp, the town was originally known as Harmony (also called Harmonie, or New Harmony). In its early years the settlement was the home of Lutherans who had separated from the official church in the Duchy of Württemberg and immigrated to the United States. The Harmonists built a new town in the wilderness, but in 1824 they decided to sell their property and return to Pennsylvania. Robert Owen, a Welsh industrialist and social reformer, purchased the town in 1825 with the intention of creating a new utopian community and renamed it New Harmony. Poseyville is a town in Robb Township, Posey County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,045 at the 2010 census. History The town of Poseyville was originally called Palestine when the town was first surveyed and laid out by James Smith on February 28, 1840. The town was set up along the New Harmony-Princeton coach line. The new town was recorded at the Posey County Recorder's Office on November 20, 1840. Palestine was renamed Poseyville when the town got its first post office on February 10, 1843 due to another town named Palestine, Indiana who already had a post office. The name was officially approved and changed by the Indiana State Legislature on December 26, 1844, but didn't get recorded locally. The history books of Posey County state the town name was changed in 1852. This was the year that the town was first referred to as Poseyville in the county records. State Road 68 in the U.S. State of Indiana is a route in Gibson, Posey, Spencer and Warrick counties. Route description State Road 68 begins in New Harmony at State Road 69 and runs east, passing through the towns of Poseyville, Cynthiana, Haubstadt, Lynnville and Selvin. State Road 68 nearly parallels Interstate 64, but although it passes over the interstate twice, there is no direct interchange. Terence Faherty (born 1954) is an American author of mystery novels. Personal Faherty was born in Trenton, New Jersey. He graduated from Rider College and became a technical writer at a bank in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he currently lives with his wife, Jan.
