Raptor (rocket Engine)
Raptor is a family of Staged combustion cycle#Full-flow staged combustion cycle, full-flow staged-combustion-cycle rocket engines developed and manufactured by SpaceX for use on the in-development SpaceX Starship. The engine is powered by cryogenic fuel, cryogenic liquid methane and liquid oxygen ("methalox") rather than the RP-1 and liquid oxygen ("kerolox") used in SpaceX's prior SpaceX Merlin, Merlin and SpaceX Kestrel, Kestrel rocket engines. The Raptor engine has more than twice the thrust of SpaceX's Merlin (rocket engine family)#Merlin 1D, Merlin 1D engine that powers the Falcon 9 Full Thrust, Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles. Merlin ( cy, Myrddin, kw, Marzhin, br, Merzhin) is a mythical figure prominently featured in the legend of King Arthur and best known as a mage, with several other main roles. His usual depiction, based on an amalgamation of historic and legendary figures, was introduced by the 12th-century British author Geoffrey of Monmouth.
