Ranveer Jamwal
Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, VSM** (born 26 December 1975) is an officer of the Indian Army and the first Indian to climb the Seven Summits and Mount Everest three times. He is a veteran of more than 30 mountaineering expeditions across seven continents that include the Mount Everest expedition four times. Early life and education Jamwal is a third-generation soldier who was born on 26 December 1975 to Sh Onkar Singh, a Havildar in the Indian Army. His family is from Badhori of Samba District in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. He completed his primary and secondary education from Army School, Ratnuchak. He cleared the Officer Examination (Army Cadet College) and joined the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in 1998. The first attempts to summit Mount Everest by Indians were in 1960. The first Indians to reach the summit were a group led by Captain M.S. Kohli in 1965. 422 Indians made a total of 465 attempts between 1965 and 2018. These include 43 repeat attempts by 29 summiteers. Indian Mountaineering Foundation is an apex national body which organize and support, mountaineering and rock climbing expeditions at high altitudes in the Himalayas.
