Ransome Gillet Holdredge (1836 - 1899) was an early San Francisco school painter, specializing in Northern California landscapes. Biography Holdredge was born in 1836, and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1850s, where he became head draughtsman at Mare Island Naval Yard. In 1874, with the assistance of friends and patrons, he moved to Paris for two years where he studied painting and traveled around Europe. On his return, he gained a reputation as a leading landscape artist, traveling through the Western United States from Utah and the Rocky Mountains, to Oregon and the Sierra Mountains, to Yosemite and to the San Francisco Bay Area, often living with local Native American tribes. He may have been a founder of the Bohemian Club of San Francisco, and was an early member of that association. Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies Limited was a major British agricultural machinery maker also producing a wide range of general engineering products in Ipswich, Suffolk including traction engines, trolleybuses, ploughs, lawn mowers, combine harvesters and other tilling equipment. Ransomes also manufactured Direct Current electric motors in a wide range of sizes, and electric forklift trucks and tractors. They manufactured aeroplanes during the First World War. Their base, specially set up in 1845, was named Orwell Works. Ransome is an outer coastal suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Ransome had a population of 405 people. Geography Ransome is by road east of the Brisbane CBD. It is on the boundary with the City of Redland. Ransome is bounded to the north by Moreton Bay, to the east by Tingalpa Creek, to the south by Chadwell Street and to the west loosely by Lota Creek. Rickertt Road enters the suburb from the west (Wakerley) and travels straight east through the suburb and exits to the east (Thornside); it is the only through road in the suburb. Ransome Airlines was a regional airline from the United States, headquartered at Northeast Philadelphia Airport in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1967, it operated feeder flights on behalf of different mainline carriers via specific airline brands for most of its existence: as Allegheny Commuter (1970-1982), Delta Connection (1984-1987), Pan Am Express (1987-1991) and finally Trans World Express (1991-1995). Ransome Judson Williams (January 4, 1892January 7, 1970) was the 102nd governor of South Carolina from 1945 to 1947. Biography Born in Cope, South Carolina, he graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and became employed as a pharmacist. He married Virginia Faith Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Isham Allen, on October 11, 1916. His political career began when he was first elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives and served from 1931 to 1932. In 1943, he was elected the 75th Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina and when Olin Johnston resigned from the Governorship in 1945, Williams became the 102nd Governor of South Carolina. Arthur Michell Ransome (18 January 1884 – 3 June 1967) was an English author and journalist. He is best known for writing and illustrating the ''Swallows and Amazons'' series of children's books about the school-holiday adventures of children, mostly in the Lake District and the Norfolk Broads. The entire series remains in print, and ''Swallows and Amazons'' is the basis for a tourist industry around Windermere and Coniston Water, the two lakes Ransome adapted as his fictional North Country lake. He also wrote about the literary life of London, and about Russia before, during, and after the revolutions of 1917.
