Rankin County School District
The Rankin County School District is the 3rd largest public school district in Mississippi. The district office is located in Brandon, Mississippi (USA). In addition to Brandon, the district serves most of Rankin County, including the communities of Florence, Flowood, Pelahatchie, Puckett, Richland, Sandhill, and Star. History The Rankin County School District is one of the top three sizeable public school districts in Mississippi. There are 28 schools, over 18,000 students in the district, and the district serves over seven different cities. RCSD is known for their recreational and outdoor activities. In 2013, RCSD was the defendant in a federal lawsuit regarding religion in public schools after Northwest Rankin High School subjected students to mandatory Christian assemblies. The case settled, but in 2014 the RCSD violated the settlement by inviting a Methodist preacher to lead a prayer during a District wide awards ceremony. Pelahatchie High School, also known as Pelahatchie Attendance Center, is located in Pelahatchie, Mississippi, serving students in grades 712 and having a population of about 380 students. History The school was established within the 1870s. By 1891, Pelahatchie was one of the only three schools in the Rankin Country area. Northwest Rankin High School is a suburban public high school located in Flowood, Mississippi, United States. The school serves grades 9-12 and is part of the Rankin County School District. The school's attendance was approximately 1,700 students as of the 2018 campus census. Plans for the construction for a new high school in between the current campus and the campus of Northwest Rankin Middle School were approved by the Rankin Country School District board.
