''Random'' is a double- CD tribute album featuring songs by Gary Numan, released in 1997 on his first label, Beggars Banquet. ''Random'' was released four months before Numan's 1997 studio album '' Exile''. It played a key role in his 1990s career revival, showing the influence he had had on artists such as Damon Albarn, Pop Will Eat Itself, and Jesus Jones. ''The Guardian'' wrote in retrospect that his return to form began with ''Random''. Numan himself said it "helped enormously." It was followed one year later by the remix album '' Random (02)''. Gary Numan
Gary Anthony James Webb (born 8 March 1958), known professionally as Gary Numan, is an English musician. He entered the music industry as frontman of the new wave band Tubeway Army. After releasing two albums with the band, he released his debut solo album '' The Pleasure Principle'' in 1979, topping the UK Albums Chart. While his commercial popularity peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits including "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and "Cars" (both of which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart), Numan maintains a cult following. He has sold over 10 million records. Numan faced intense hostility from critics and fellow musicians in his early career, but has since come to be regarded as a pioneer of electronic music. He developed a signature sound consisting of heavy synthesiser hooks fed through guitar effects pedals, and is also known for his distinctive voice and androgynous "android" persona. ''Random (02)'' is a remix album by Gary Numan, released in 1998 on Beggars Banquet records as a companion album to the ''Random'' covers album of the preceding year. It contains new remixes in techno and house music styles by several club DJ's and mixers and was also released as a four LP set. These four vinyl LPs were again released separately as limited edition 12" singles on red (''Random 2.1''), green (''Random 2.2''), blue (''Random 2.3'') and clear (''Random 2.4'') vinyl. The artwork is notable for being printed on rice paper. Earl Brutus
Earl Brutus were a British indie rock band that emerged in the 1990s. They were formed in 1993 by Nick Sanderson, Rob Marche (formerly of JoBoxers and If?), Jamie Fry (formerly of World of Twist) and Stuart Boreman. Boreman left after the release of their first single ''Life's Too Long'' and was replaced by Gordon King, who had been in World of Twist with Fry. History They were renowned for their chaotically raucous and visually entertaining live shows, which often featured unusual stage props, including messages and slogans that were displayed on revolving garage forecourt signs, written in neon lights or spelt out using funeral wreaths. She's Got Claws
"She’s Got Claws" is a 1981 song by Gary Numan. It was the first and only single released from his 1981 album '' Dance''. The song signalled a different musical style for Numan, featuring jazz-influenced saxophone and fretless bass, as well as a new image comprising trilby hat and pinstriped suit, inspired by Humphrey Bogart and Howard Hughes. Background An obscure single in July 1981 called " Stormtrooper in Drag", released under the name of his friend and bass-player Paul Gardiner but co-written and sung by Numan, provided a foretaste of the latter’s new sound, far removed from the science fiction influenced synthpop that had made him a star. An Pierlé (born An Miel Mia Pierlé on 13 December 1974) is a Belgian pianist and singer-songwriter. Career She studied classical piano and enrolled at the age of 17 at the art school in Antwerp. In her third year there she made a solo programme with songs of her own, alone at the piano. Shortly after she became known to a moderately wide audience in 1996 when she entered Humo's Rock Rally with a tape of her own version of Gary Numan's ''Are 'Friends' Electric?''. "I Can't Stop" is a song by English musician Gary Numan, which was released in 1986 as the second single from his eighth studio album ''Strange Charm''. It was written by Numan, and produced by Numan and the Waveteam. "I Can't Stop" reached No. 27 in the UK and remained on the charts for four weeks. Music video A music video was filmed to promote the single. The nightclub performance footage was shot at Kadek TV (adjoining Shepperton Studios) and the footage of Numan flying his Harvard plane was filmed at Duxford Aerodrome. Gravity Kills was an American industrial rock band from St. Louis, Missouri.
