Randal Tye Thomas (August 23, 1978 – January 13, 2014) served as Mayor of Gun Barrel City, Texas. Gun Barrel City, Texas
Gun Barrel City is a town in Henderson County, Texas, United States. Its population was 6,190 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, up from 5,672 at the 2010 census. The town began as an Municipal corporation, unincorporated community known as the "Old Bethel Community" in the 1960s after completion of Cedar Creek Reservoir (Texas), Cedar Creek Reservoir. It was incorporated in the late 1960s so it could legally sell beer and wine. The town takes its name from a former road, Gun Barrel Lane (which is now Texas State Highway 198, State Highway 198), as has as its motto, "We Shoot Straight with You", and its symbol—a rifle with two crossed antique pistols after having to remove Yosemite Sam as its unofficial mascot on its signs along the road at the town limits. The 2000 United States presidential election in Texas took place on November 7, 2000, and was part of the 2000 United States presidential election. State voters chose 32 representatives, or electors, to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. Texas was won by the Republican Party candidate, the state's incumbent governor, George W. Bush, by a 21.32% margin of victory. This was the first time since 1928 that Cottle County voted Republican. Many counties that Bill Clinton won in 1996 swung towards Bush in this election, in part due to the increasingly conservative bent of rural areas and Bush's favorite son status within the state. Perhaps the most notable and surprising county to be won by Bush was the very liberal Travis County. David Henry Dewhurst (born August 18, 1945) is an American politician, businessman, and attorney who served as the 41st Lieutenant Governor of Texas, serving from 2003 to 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he was the Texas Land Commissioner from 1999 to 2003. He was a candidate in 2012 for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the retiring Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison, but he lost his party's runoff election to former Solicitor General Ted Cruz, who went on to win the general election.
