Ram Jati Singh
Ram Jati Singh, OBE (1908–1992) was a Fiji Indian politician and landlord who was elected to the Legislative Council in the 1966 general elections on the National Federation Party (NFP) ticket. He was re-elected in the 1968 by-election with an increased majority. He was the father of the Fijian politician Raman Pratap Singh, and the grandfather of Australian politician Lisa Singh Lisa Maria Singh (born 20 February 1972) is a former Australian politician. She was a Senator for Tasmania from 2011 to 2019. She had previously been a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly, representing the division of Denison from 2006 .... The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. The Legislative Council of Fiji was the colonial precursor to the present-day Parliament, which came into existence when Fiji became independent on 10 October 1970. The first Legislative Council Immediately after Fiji was ceded to the United Kingdom, on 10 October 1874, the first Governor, Sir Hercules Robinson, established an Executive Council with himself as President and comprising six other Europeans. This was a temporary measure to make policy decisions necessary to found and legitimise the new Colonial Government and to carry out the day-to-day affairs of the Government. With the arrival of Sir Arthur Gordon, on 1 September 1875, a permanent machinery for governing the new colony was established. National Federation Party
The National Federation Party is a Fijian political party founded by A. D. Patel, A.D. Patel in November 1968, as a merger of the Federation Party and the National Democratic Party (Fiji, 1960s), National Democratic Party. Though it claimed to represent all Fiji Islanders, it was supported, in practice, almost exclusively by Indians in Fiji, Indo-Fijians whose ancestors had come to Fiji between 1879 and 1916, mostly as indentured labourers. However, in the 2018 Fijian general election, 2018 general election, the party recorded a considerable change in its support base due to the inclusion of more indigenous Fijian candidates. Raman Pratap Singh
Raman Pratap Singh (6 June 1950 – 18 May 2020) was a Fijian lawyer and politician of Indian descent. Early life Singh was born on 6 June 1950 in Buabua. He graduated with a law degree in 1977 and began working as a lawyer in 1978. He was a director on the Sugar Cane Growers Council and member of the Fiji Sugar Commission. In 1982, he began working as a town clerk for Labasa Town Council. Lisa Maria Singh (born 20 February 1972) is a former Australian politician. She was a Senator for Tasmania from 2011 to 2019. She had previously been a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly, representing the division of Denison from 2006 to 2010. The granddaughter of an Indo-Fijian member of the Parliament of Fiji, Singh was Australia's first female federal parliamentarian of Indian origin. After leaving politics she worked as Head of Government Advocacy for Walk Free, an international human rights organization and initiative of the Minderoo Foundation.
