Ram Island (Connecticut)
Ram Island is a small island off the coast of Mystic, Connecticut. It is located in the Town of Stonington, approximately offshore, between Mystic and Fishers Island. Once called Mystic Island, it was formerly the site of an exclusive Victorian era hotel resort at which steamships from Boston and New York City stopped twice a day. At the height of its popularity, the hotel played host to a world lightweight bare-knuckle boxing championship. By the 1920s, the hotel had fallen into disrepair and was destroyed in the New England Hurricane of 1938. A motel was later built that catered to transient boaters. The island has served as a seasonal private residence and farm since 1978. However, fires in February 2013 and March 2014 destroyed the barn and home. Stonington, Connecticut
The town of Stonington is located in New London County, Connecticut in the state's southeastern corner. It includes the borough of Stonington (borough), Connecticut, Stonington, the villages of Pawcatuck, Connecticut, Pawcatuck, Lords Point, and Wequetequock Cove, Wequetequock, and the eastern halves of the villages of Mystic, Connecticut, Mystic and Old Mystic (the other halves being in the town of Groton, Connecticut, Groton). Fishers Island (Pequot: ''Munnawtawkit'') is an island that is part of Southold, New York, United States at the eastern end of Long Island Sound, off the southeastern coast of Connecticut across Fishers Island Sound. North Dumpling Island
North Dumpling Island is a island in Fishers Island Sound of Long Island Sound, off the coast of Connecticut, south of Groton, within the territory of the town of Southold on Long Island in New York State. The island is about north of South Dumpling Island, and is home is to the North Dumpling Light, which dates from 1859. The island is privately owned by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway. History In 1639, John Winthrop, son of the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, bought Fishers Island and the small islets around it, including those called "The Dumplings". Ownership of the islands, including North Dumpling, remained with the Winthrop family until 1847, when it was sold to the federal government for $600 to be the site of a lighthouse. Noank ( ) is a village in the town of Groton, Connecticut. The 1938 New England Hurricane (also referred to as the Great New England Hurricane and the Long Island Express Hurricane) was one of the deadliest and most destructive tropical cyclones to strike Long Island, New York, and New England.
