Ralph Wetton
Ralph Wetton (6 June 1927 – 2 June 2017) was an English professional association football, footballer who played for Cheshunt F.C., Cheshunt, Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Tottenham Hotspur, Plymouth Argyle F.C., Plymouth Argyle and Aldershot F.C., Aldershot. Playing career Born in Winlaton, Wetton joined Tottenham Hotspur from Non-League football, non-league Cheshunt F.C., Cheshunt in August 1950, where he had been a member of their London League (football), London League-winning side. Signed as cover for Tottenham and Wales national football team, Wales skipper Ron Burgess (footballer), Ron Burgess, he made his senior debut at wing half on 20 October 1951 in a fixture versus Aston Villa F.C., Aston Villa when Burgess was injured. He featured in 46 senior appearances in all competitions for the Spurs between 1951 and 1955. Winlaton
Winlaton is a village situated in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Once in County Durham, it became incorporated into the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear and Borough of Gateshead in 1974. In 2011 the village was absorbed into the Gateshead MBC ward of Winlaton and High Spen. The population of this ward at the 2011 census was 8,342. Winlaton was once at the centre of the local steel industry. Ambrose Crowley, a Quaker nail-manufacturer, moved in 1691 to Winlaton. He set up furnaces and forges there and on the River Derwent at Winlaton Mill. The river was ideally suitable for tempering steel, as the sword-makers of Shotley Bridge also found. Crowley not only produced high-quality nails, but also iron goods such as pots, hinges, wheel-hubs, hatchets and edged tools. Plymouth Argyle Football Club is a professional football club based in the city of Plymouth, Devon, England. Crewe Alexandra
Crewe Alexandra Football Club is an English professional association football club based in the town of Crewe, Cheshire, that competes in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. Nicknamed 'The Railwaymen' because of the town's links with the rail industry, and also commonly known as 'The Alex', they have played at Gresty Road since 1906.
