Ralph Richards
Ralph Richards (November 22, 1809 – February 23, 1883) was an American politician from New York. Life He was born on November 22, 1809, in Weathersfield, Windsor County, Vermont, the son of Eli Richards (1778–1858) and Amanda Richards. In 1813, the family removed to Hampton, Washington County, New York. Ralph Richards became a school teacher. On April 23, 1838, he married Harriet Leland (1820–1847), and they had a daughter who died aged 7 years. On January 12, 1848, he married Mary Richardson (born 1820), and they had five children. Volney Richmond
Volney Richmond (June 23, 1802 Hoosick, Rensselaer County, New York - February 27, 1864) was an American manufacturer and politician from New York. Life He was the son of Edward Richmond (c. 1856–1827) and Olive (Briggs) Richmond. He became a wagon and carriage maker, and set up shop in Hoosick. Later he ran a hotel there until 1840 when he was elected Sheriff and removed to the county seat Troy. In 1828, he married Lucy Townsend (d. 1836). In 1838, he married Mary Barnett (b. 1815), and they had three children. He was Sheriff of Rensselaer County, New York from 1841 to 1843, and Under-Sheriff from 1844 to 1846. In 1848, he established a stove foundry in Troy. In 1856, he returned to Hoosick and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Rensselaer Co., 2nd D.) in 1857; and a member of the New York State Senate (12th D.) in 1860 and 1861. Weathersfield, Vermont
Weathersfield is a town in Windsor County, Vermont, United States. The population was 2,842 at the 2020 census. History The town of Weathersfield was named for Wethersfield, Connecticut, the home of some of its earliest settlers. The Connecticut town had taken its name, in turn, from Wethersfield, a village in the English county of Essex, the name of which derived from "wether", or in Old English ''wither'', meaning a castrated lamb. In England, wethers were trained to lead flocks of ewes to pasture. It was a supreme irony that the name of the Vermont town (with an 'a' inserted) would derive from a connection to sheep, the animal that would come to define Weathersfield's earliest antecedents and first put it on the map. The man responsible for that feat was a native of Boston who had become a European trader. The 86th New York State Legislature, consisting of the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly, met from January 6 to April 25, 1863, during the first year of Horatio Seymour's second tenure as Governor of New York, in Albany. Background Under the provisions of the New York Constitution of 1846, 32 Senators and 128 assemblymen were elected in single-seat districts; senators for a two-year term, assemblymen for a one-year term. The senatorial districts were made up of entire counties, except New York County (four districts) and Kings County (two districts).
