Ralph Luther Criswell
Ralph Luther Criswell (October 12, 1861 – November 17, 1947) was a member of the Los Angeles City Council for ten years in the early 20th century. He then became a special agent, or lobbyist, for the Boulder Canyon Project#Planning and agreements, Colorado River Project that brought water to Southern California. Biography Criswell was born on October 12, 1861 in Rushville, Illinois to Edmund L. Criswell and the former Susan Catherine Wright. When he was fourteen, he worked in a printer (publisher), print shop and became a Linotype machine operator. He joined the International Typographical Union in 1895 and managed the ''Johnstown News'' in Johnstown, Nebraska, and founded the ''Northwestern County Gazette'' in 1886 in Kansas. Joe Crail
Joseph Steele Crail (December 25, 1877 – March 2, 1938) was a United States representative from California. He was born in Fairfield, Iowa. He attended the public schools and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1898. During the Spanish–American War, Crail enlisted as a private in the Twelfth Company, United States Volunteer Signal Corps. He was promoted to corporal and served in the American Army of Occupation in Cuba until its withdrawal. He studied law at the Iowa College of Law, and was admitted to the bar in 1903 and commenced practice in Fairfield, Iowa. Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. Robert Stewart Sparks
Robert Stewart Sparks (1871–1932) was a Los Angeles City Council member in the 1920s. He was the first person to represent the 5th District under a new city charter effective in 1925. Earlier, he was given the nickname "Cupid" while he managed Los Angeles' marriage licensing bureau for 19 years.
