Ralph Johnstone (politician)
Ralph Warren Johnstone (May 5, 1914 – August 25, 2010) was a Canadian politician and farmer. He represented 1st Queens in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1970 to 1979 as a Liberal. Johnstone was born in 1914 in Long River, Prince Edward Island. He married Marion Hazel Howard in 1945. A farmer by career, Johnstone operated two farms and was an active member of the Federation of Agriculture. Johnstone entered provincial politics in the 1970 election, when he was elected councillor for the electoral district of 1st Queens. He was re-elected in the 1974, and 1978 elections. Johnstone was defeated by Progressive Conservative Leone Bagnall, when he ran for re-election in 1979. 1st Queens
1st Queens was an electoral district in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, which elected two members to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1873 until the riding was abolished in 1996 with the elimination of dual member ridings. The district comprised the westernmost portion of Queens County. The district holds a unique place in the history of women's participation in Prince Edward Island's provincial politics. Walter Russell Shaw
Walter Russell Shaw, (December 20, 1887 – May 29, 1981) was a politician from Prince Edward Island. A native of West River, Shaw was educated at Prince of Wales College, the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and the University of Toronto. On his return to Prince Edward Island, he farmed for several years, becoming a noted livestock breeder. Shaw worked as a civil servant in the provincial department of agriculture from 1934 to 1954, rising to the position of deputy minister. He also helped found the PEI Federation of Agriculture serving as its first general secretary. He entered politics in 1957 when he was chosen leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. He led the party to victory in the 1959 election becoming the 22nd premier at the age of 71. Jean Canfield

Flora Minnie Leone Bagnall, (July 20, 1933 – April 30, 2017) was a farmer, teacher and former member of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. She was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 1979 provincial election, representing the 1st Queens district. She was re-elected in 1982, 1986 and 1989. She was appointed Minister of Education from October 28, 1982 to May 2, 1986. Following the party's defeat in the 1986 provincial election, she briefly served as the interim leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island from 1987 to 1988. The Prince Edward Island Liberal Party (officially the ''Prince Edward Island Liberal Association'') is a political party in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The PEI Liberals are affiliated with the federal Liberal Party of Canada. 1979 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 1979 Prince Edward Island general election was held on April 23, 1979. The election was held just one year after the 1978 election, which featured a 17–15 split in MLAs in the legislature. Following the resignation of former premier Alex Campbell from his seat, the Legislature was in a 15–15 tie in voting members (the Liberal Speaker, Russell Perry, could not cast active votes in his role), the new Premier Bennett Campbell decided to call an election in an effort to regain his lost majority. The gambit failed, and instead the Progressive Conservatives led by Angus MacLean formed a strong majority government.
