Ralph Allen School
Ralph Allen School in Combe Down, Bath, England, is a co-educational, comprehensive secondary school with academy status. Located on the south-eastern edge of Bath, the school educates 11 to 18-year-olds from Bath and the surrounding area. History The school was built and named in 1957 to commemorate Ralph Allen (1693-1764). It opened in 1958. Awards In 2004, the school gained specialist Science College status, and has also been recognised by Artsmark Silver, Investors in People, Investors in Student Careers, Schools for Health, Partnership Promotion School and Sportsmark Gold awards. Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. The terms of the arrangements are set out in individual Academy Funding Agreements. Most academies are secondary schools, though slightly more than 25% of primary schools (4,363 as of December 2017) are academies. Academies are self-governing non-profit charitable trusts and may receive additional support from personal or corporate sponsors, either financially or in kind. Academies are inspected and follow the same rules on admissions, special educational needs and exclusions as other state schools and students sit the same national exams. Jeremy Guscott
Jeremy Clayton Guscott (born 7 July 1965) is a British former rugby union outside centre who played for Bath, England and the British and Irish Lions. He also appeared for England on the wing. Guscott was born in Bath, Somerset, one of the two sons of hospital porter Henry Guscott and his wife Sue, and was educated at Ralph Allen School. He played for his home city throughout his career, most of which was during the amateur era. Guscott was originally a bricklayer, briefly drove buses for Badgerline in Bath, then worked for British Gas in a public-relations role before the game turned professional. During the English off season of 1987, Guscott travelled to Australia and played for Wollongong Waratahs RFC in the Illawarra District Rugby Union competition. Jake Tony Sinclair (born 29 November 1994) is an English footballer who has played professionally for Southampton and Hibernian. He is currently a striker for Mangotsfield United. Career Sinclair joined Southampton at the academy level at the age of eight years. He made his professional debut for Southampton's first-team on 27 August 2013 against Barnsley at Oakwell Stadium in the Football League Cup in which he came on in the 90th minute for Emmanuel Mayuka as Southampton won the match 5–1. Serena Guthrie
Serena Monique Guthrie (born 5 January 1990) is a former netball player from Jersey who played internationally for England. She played in the Centre, Wing Attack and Wing Defence positions. She was a dynamic player, known for her speed and athleticism, with a keen eye for the intercept. She made the squad in 2008, debuting soon after when she was just 17 years old, and has so far earned over 50 caps for her country. In domestic netball, she played for Team Bath until 2015, when she signed with the Northern Mystics in New Zealand, having previously trained with the team in 2012. In 2017 Guthrie began playing for Giants Netball in the Australian Suncorp Super Netball league. Scott Andrew Sinclair (born 25 March 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a winger for EFL League One club Bristol Rovers. He represented England at youth level, from the under-17s to the under-21s, and also played for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Sportsmark
Sportsmark is Sport England's accreditation scheme for secondary schools. The scheme recognises a school's out of hours sports provision. Sportsmark awards are given to secondary schools for provision for sport and physical education. They are currently being reviewed along with Activemark awards with plans for a new sports partnership mark. When the policies were introduced there was little other investment into school sport.
