Raine Loo
Raine Loo (28 March 1945 – 16 May 2020) was an Estonian stage, television and film actress. Early life and education Raine Loo was born in the former Taevere Parish in Viljandi County, which is now part of Põhja-Sakala Parish. She attended No. 8 School in Tartu (now, the Tartu Forselius School), graduating in 1963. Afterward, she studied acting at the Vanemuine teaching studio, where she graduated from in 1965. Stage career In 1965, Loo became engaged at the Vanemuine theatre as an actress. Her first major role at the Vanemuine was that of Ingrid in a 1965 production of Mati Unt's ''See maailm või teine''. Notable performances at the Vanemuine have included roles in works by such varied international authors and playwrights as: Shakespeare, Chekhov, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, T. S. Viljandi County ( et, Viljandi maakond or ''Viljandimaa''; german: Kreis Fellin) is one of 15 counties of Estonia. Witold Gombrowicz
Witold Marian Gombrowicz (August 4, 1904 – July 24, 1969) was a Polish writer and playwright. His works are characterised by deep psychological analysis, a certain sense of paradox and absurd, anti-nationalist flavor. In 1937 he published his first novel, '' Ferdydurke'', which presented many of his usual themes: problems of immaturity and youth, creation of identity in interactions with others, and an ironic, critical examination of class roles in Polish society and culture. He gained fame only during the last years of his life, but is now considered one of the foremost figures of Polish literature. His diaries were published in 1969 and are, according to the ''Paris Review'', "widely considered his masterpiece", while ''Cosmos'' is considered, according to ''The New Yorker'', "his most accomplished novel". Baltic Sea
The Baltic Sea is an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that is enclosed by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden and the North and Central European Plain. Virve Aruoja (since 1978 Virve Aruoja-Hellström; 19 February 1922 Saduküla – 15 September 2013) was an Estonian television and film director and former actress. Karl Ristikivi
Karl Ristikivi (; in Pärnumaa, Saulepi Parish, Lääne County (now Kilgi, Varbla Parish, Pärnu County) – 19 July 1977 in Solna, Stockholm) was an Estonian writer. He is among the best Estonian writers for his historical novels. Early life and education in Estonia Karl Ristikivi was one of the first Estonian writers to create a comprehensive panorama of his country's urbanization. Once in Swedish exile, he also wrote the first Estonian surrealist novel, a work that is strongly influenced by existentialist philosophy. He orchestrated an impressive cycle of seventeen novels plus other books into a polyphonic unity with a time scale that embraces European history over two millennia. August Kitzberg
August Kitzberg ( in Laatre Parish, Governorate of Livonia, Russian Empire – 10 October 1927 in Tartu) was an Estonian writer. Life Until 1863, August Kitzberg was known as August Kits. He grew up in Niitsaadu farmstead in Penuja village, Abja Parish (1857–1871), where his brother, Jaak Kits, was a schoolteacher. He worked for a time in Viljandi and present-day Latvia before moving to Tartu in 1901, where he worked as a manager of the newspaper ''Postimees''. His early works consisted of comedies and humorous stories of village life. In Tartu, Kitzberg began working with Karl Menning at the Vanemuine Theatre, and his plays developed a component of social criticism. There is a monument and museum dedicated to Kitzberg in Karksi-Nuia.
