''Rainbow Sign'' is a studio album from American jazz musician Ron Miles, it is his first album on a major label, Blue Note Records, released on October 9, 2020. It has received positive reviews from critics. It is also his final studio album, released two years prior to his death in March 2022. Recording The album was recorded while Miles cared for his dying father in mid-2018 and reunited him with a band that helped record his previous album ''I Am a Man''. Critical reception The editorial staff of AllMusic Guide gave the album four out of five stars, with reviewer Thom Jurek noting how Miles blends "polytonal modal music, blues, gospel, post-bop, and pop". Kevin Whitehead of '' Fresh Air'' praises the dream-like quality of the musicians and their ability to work together to realize Miles' music and he notes the influence of pop music. Ronald Glen Miles (May 9, 1963 – March 8, 2022) was an American jazz trumpeter, cornetist, and composer. He recorded for the labels Prolific (1986), Capri Records (Jazz record label), Capri (1990), and Rykodisc, Gramavision. His final album, ''Rainbow Sign'', was his first on the Blue Note Records, Blue Note label. Early life Miles was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 9, 1963. His parents, Fay Downey Miles and Jane Miles worked for the United States federal civil service, federal civil service. The family relocated to Denver, Colorado, when he was eleven, partly because his parents thought the mountain climate would be better for his asthma. Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colour model. Gregory Calbi (born April 3, 1949) is an American mastering engineer at Sterling Sound, New Jersey. Biography Greg Calbi was born on April 3, 1949, in Yonkers, New York, and raised in Bayside, Queens, New York. He graduated in 1966 from Bishop Reilly High School in Fresh Meadows. Calbi earned his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications at Fordham University where he studied with Marshall McLuhan and his staff for 3 of those years.
