Raimundo Andueza Palacio
Raimundo Ignacio Andueza Palacio (6 February 1846 – 17 August 1900), was the president of Venezuela (1890–1892). He also served twice as his country's Minister of Foreign Affairs. A member of the Liberal Party, Andueza entered politics as deputy for Aragua. He was the Minister of Finance from 1877 to 1878. Presidency and the ''revolucion legalistica'' He became president on 7 March 1890, taking up residence in the Yellow House. He left office under duress. His presidential term was due to end in 1892, but he tried to extend it, resulting in resistance known as the ''revolucion legalistica''. He stepped down on 17 June 1892 under pressure from the armed intervention of Joaquín Crespo. Subsequent career Andueza went into exile, not returning until after Crespo's death in 1898. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs under Cipriano Castro from 1899 to 1900, the year of his death. The Casa Amarilla de Caracas (''English'': Yellow House) is a 19th Century neoclassical building in Plaza Bolívar, Caracas and in front of the Santa Ana Cathedral, in the city's main historic quarter. Originally, it served as the headquarters of the Royal Jail of Caracas and the City Council but, after being reformed, it was used as the government palace and official residence of presidents including Francisco Linares Alcántara and Cipriano Castro. Eduardo Blanco (1838–1912), Venezuelan writer and politician, was aide-de-camp to General José Antonio Páez, independence hero and first president of Venezuela after the breakup of Gran Colombia in 1830. Biography His main work is ''Venezuela Heroica'' (1881), a classic romantic view of history as an epic. ''Venezuela heroica'' is structured in five vignettes that depict the main battles and heroes of the Venezuelan War of Independence. It was from General Páez himself that Blanco heard the stories of the Battle of Carabobo, during an encounter with Marshal Juan Crisóstomo Falcón to end the Federal War (1859–1863) near the site of the battle. Páez was so moved from his memories of youth, the anecdote goes, that he could not stop telling his aide the details of the battle.
