Raimo Utriainen
Raimo Utriainen (24 September 1927, Kuopio — 27 April 1994, Helsinki) was a Finnish visual artist, best known as a modernist sculptor and a moderniser of Finnish sculpture. Biography Utriainen initially studied mathematics at the University of Turku, while also attending art classes. He later moved to Helsinki, and switched to studying architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology. Later still, he transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, Academy of Fine Arts (now part of the University of the Arts Helsinki) to study art. This mathematical and architectural training influenced much of his later works. Utriainen was twice married and divorced, and had three children. In 1993, shortly before his death, Utriainen established an art foundation, which awards annual grants to support young sculptors. Academic Ranks In Finland
The following are academic ranks in the Finnish higher education system. There are a specific number of posts, which can be applied to when they are vacated or established. Professors Finland's system is similar to the traditional German system in that there is a limited number of posts for professors (''professori''), who head research groups, and take part in administration in addition to lecturing and thesis supervision. Fulfillment of a professor's post often requires that the previous professor has retired. Traditionally, there was no assistant / associate / full professor career track, nor an official "tenure track". The title of ''apulaisprofessori'' ("assistant professor") was retired in 1998, but reintroduced in 2010. Qualifications for a professor's position are a doctoral degree and an extensive independent publication and teaching record. Helsinki Festival
The Helsinki Festival (in Finnish: Helsingin juhlaviikot, in Swedish: Helsingfors festspel) is the largest multi-arts festival in Finland. It is Finland's biggest cultural event in terms of visitors. In 2015, around 295,000 people visited the Helsinki Festival. The Helsinki Festival was established in its present form in 1968 by the City of Helsinki to follow up and to broaden the supply of culture in the mainly classical music festival then called "Sibelius viikot" ("Sibelius weeks"). The original "Sibelius viikot" festival was active from 1951 to 1965. The Helsinki Festival is an annual event, in August. The Order of the Lion of Finland ( fi, Suomen Leijonan ritarikunta; sv, Finlands Lejons orden) is one of three official orders in Finland, along with the Order of the Cross of Liberty and the Order of the White Rose of Finland. The President of Finland is the Grand Master of all three orders. The orders are administered by boards consisting of a chancellor, a vice-chancellor and at least four members. Ida Aalberg
Ida Aalberg (4 December 1857 – 17 January 1915) was the most notable and internationally known Finnish actress of her time. Biography Aalberg was born in , Janakkala. She was a member of the Theatre of Finland from 1874 to 1883 and later a regular visiting actress. She also performed on foreign scenes, in Scandinavia, Germany, Hungary and Russia among others. Although she never managed a breakthrough in a foreign language she remained respected and highly popular in Finland, even when spending much, or nearly all of her time abroad. A new theatre house that opened in 1902 led to the renaming of the Theatre of Finland as The Finnish National Theatre. A few years later Aalberg began to show an interest in directing and administration which lead to her appointment as director-actor (assistant manager) in 1909. She was not a success as a director.
